Recovering individual files from an image backup?
Is it possible to recover one or more files from an image backup? (If so, how?)

I have the same question as above and am using win seven
I copied and pasted a a new version of the tib file just to be safe
I cannot find "mount the image" in a rt click selection
If I double click the the explorer opens a green progress bar but MyComputer opens again.
I cannot see "explore all versions"
As I am on Evaluation I dont have a recovery cd
Can any one please help?

The only time the icon is in the system tray is when a backup is in progress.
You would normally start the program from the Start/programs/start menu

Maybe I am getting confused by the Initials ATI
On my XP machine I have an ATI icon which is something to do with"Catalyst control center" ATI Radeon.
This does not seem to be on my laptop with win seven.

Right. ATI means Acronis True Image here.

I downloadedv the latest trial version and in properties > shortcut it names
Acronis True Image 2012
I cant seem to find more version info, I hope this is enough.

With ATI 2012, you would first have to click on browse for backup on the backup and recover tab. Then your existing backup file will be added to the list of backup files. You can then click on the gear to select explore and recover.
If you dont' see a contextual menu when you right click on the TIB file in Windows explorer that says "Archives" , verify that you have the integration of True Image with Windows enabled, under the gear menu left of ATI help menu.

My backup is on an external disk F:
I wish to be able to recover a single file and copy this to my main computer.
In Acronis in the tab Backup and Recovery I see a list of backups.
BU A has a remark: not backed up yet
BU B has no remark but if selected and the Gear is selected a new blank page appears which states
There are no versions of the backup
BU 3 has a remark
The backup is valid:
When the Gear is selected and Explore and Recover is selected I can then select the tab Files and folders.
This shows me the correct Drive D: which allows me to select the correct path for recovery it seems of all files.
I the Select Recover now the progress bar shows files being recovered to the correct folder.
When I later open the folder it is empty.
Can you see where I am going wrong please?

I too would like to know how to recover individual files or folders from a True Image backup. I am using Acronis True Image 2011.
I made a complete image backup of my C drive. I know this works, as I have done complete image restores before. However, I am struggling to figure out how to recover specific files from this image backup. I took the suggestion made above, to double click on the TIB file. This opens a Windows Explorer window and allows me to navigate to the desired folder. In my case, I am trying to recover a file from 'My Documents', but when I select this folder, it shows zero files! When I do the same operation directly from by C drive (not the backup), all my documents are there and visible.
This problem (of zero files in a folder) appears manifest itself whenever I select a 'greyed out' folder from the backup image.. for example, Application Data, Local Settings, My Documents, Cookies, etc. (all in the uses -> computer_name folder). I assume they are greyed out because they would normally be hidden folders, and I have my Explorer options set to show hidden/system folders - when navigating my C drive (not backup), these folders are not greyed out, and I can display the files within these folders.
The bottom line, is that I just cannot see any of my documents in the backup set. Even if I regress back to the root folder (ie, the C drive in the backup set), and do a search for files or folders that I know are in My Documents, the search yields no files found! This is a bit unnerving.
Am I doing something wrong??

My Documents is a NTFS junction pointing to a folder caller "documents", typically, and located under C:\users\[UserA]\Documents by default. Navigate to that folder to find the folder on Vista and Win7. There is another hidden link in the same folder caller "My documents" that is there for compatibility purposes, but is always empty. Other such "compatibility links" include Application Data, Local Settings, Cookies, Network, etc. All are these are empty on WIn7 and Vista.
If you have moved the location of the default documents folder, you need to navigate to that location, assuming it is on the partition that was backed up.
Another way of restoring the files is to mount the image (this operation is available only with disk and partition backup). Mount the image in read only, and assign a drive letter only to the partition you need (not to, for example, the system reserved partition).

Btw.. Is there a means to 'search' the archive TIB file for a specific file? There is a sreach box at the top of the screen, but it appears that this will not search recursively within the sub folders.

I never use the Acronis search function, so I don't know. Either I browse manually the TIB or I mount the image and use Windows Search.
