Downgrading from 2012 to 2011 possible?
Hi all,
I have just purchased TI2012, but now want to downgrade to 2011.
2011 seems to be available to download when I log in at the Acronic website. Can I simply uninstall 2012, then install 2011 using the same serial as 2012? To be clear, I don't want to use both.
One earlier Forum post talked about a Downgrade button which can provide serial numbers for previous versions, but I can't find it. Possibly this was only possible for 2011-->2010?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Trial versions of 2012 and 2011 are available to download in my Profile. So I downloaded the Trial 2011, uninstalled my purchased copy of 2012 and installed the Trial 2011. Unfortunately there is no way to get a Trial serial for 2011 because the "Get a Trial key" button takes you to the page for 2012. Since a Trial is not available I guess purchase is not possible either.
So it looks like the option to downgrade has been removed since 2011. If anyone knows differently I would be very interested to hear how to downgrade.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Dave,
You should contact Acronis support. They have been, in some cases, offering a downgrade when the most recent version didn't work.
Alternatively, you could search the web for a 2011 copy.

Thank you for that suggestion, Pat - it us appreciated. I will see what Acronis Support has to say.

FWIIW, Pat, I have just had a very interesting chat with Acronis Support.
Downgrading is not an option. I can understand the reasoning behind this although there is demand for it.
Their only suggestion is to create a bootable CD with WinPE (my main problem concerned the bootable CD). The problem is that this would take up lots of my time even if it eventually succeeded, so it is probably more economical for me to 'throw away' the purchase price of TI and try different imaging software; there is a fair amount of choice out there.
This outcome is disappointing in a way, but backup is so crucial that it is better to be COMPLETELY comfortable with whatever software you choose.
But I am sure there are lots of TI users who are extremely happy and for whom TI is a perfect fit. Just not for me.

Dave,
What kind of problem do you have? Creating a WinPE-recovery CD is relatively easy if you follow the help file. Once created, you will find that ATI is very solid with the core functionality of imaging and recovery.
You are right though that you want to be sure the imaging software works for you. It is essential for users to create a disk and partition backup that contains all partitions on their system disk and to try the recovery CD.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.
I agree creating a WinPE boot disk isn't exactly challenging, but it needs extra software to be added to my build and takes time. Really, time is the issue.
Don't get me wrong, I used what I guess was the first imaging software Acronis produced (we are probably going back about a decade here, when Acronis stole the show from Ghost!) and have used at least one subsequent version since then. These things tend to go in cycles and I will probably come back to Acronis at some point when their offering suits.
All the best, and don't forget to get some R&R over Christmas!
Dave
