TI 2011- New backup doesn't shows in MY BACKUPS list

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011.
Yesterday I made a new backup, saving it in external disk, where all my former backups were saved.
The process finished successfully, and then I wanted to validate it.
However when I checked MY BACKUPS list, the new backup not appears there. I just see all the older backups.
When searching the external disk, I do see this new backup

So my question is- what's wrong here, and why TI Home does not locate this new backup?
What can I do, in order to fix it?

Thanks

P.S
Sorry for my poor English

Avi,

This is probably because, right or wrong, ATI is seeing it as a new version of an existing backup.

Which OS are you using? Are you using the latest build of 2011?

A simple way to fix this is to create a new backup task in a new directory. A more complicated way is to delete the database.xml file in the Acronis\TrueimageHome\Database directories, when ATI is shut down.

Thank you Pat
I am using Windows 7 64 bit, ATI build 6942
Unfortunately, I didn't correctly understood either the two ways, which you suggested for fixing the problem.

I just can say that while creating the backup, I choose the option of full new backup, and not the other option, which only updating an existing backup

Avi,

Can you describe the steps you take to create your new full backup exactly? From the way you describe the options, I suspect you were using ATI2010 or earlier version before?

Pat,
No no. I am using ATI 2011 and that's for sure.

Anyway, I find the option "browse for backup", locate the new one, and add it to my list.

But now I have another problem:
When I click on" Operations" and then "Validate Backup"
I am getting the following error massage:

Filed to deploy task

What's wrong now???

Avi,

Sorry. I meant: did you upgrade from ATI 2010 to 2011? Anyway, not really a big deal.
I don't know the origin of your problem, but the basic troubleshooting is:
- move the TIB files you want to keep to another directory on the same disk for safekeeping,
- delete all the tasks from within ATI. ATI will complain it couldn't delete all the files. Insist.
- create new tasks from scratch.

If you create 2 tasks with the same content to backup, give them different names and different target directories.

Pat,
I had TI 11.
When I realized it's not works properly with Windows 7, I purchased TI 2011

I prefer not to delete anything, because I might cause a bigger problem.
If the solution is so complicated, maybe it will be better if one of their supporter will take control on my computer and fix the problems himself…

Avi,
With 2011, the process of creating backups is different from V11. In 2011, you don't run individual backups. You run tasks. A task can be set up as a series of full backups, OR of chaisn of one full followed by incrementals, OR of chains of one full followed by differentials.
When you want to run another backup, you run an existing task or you create a new task, but it is more common to run an existing task by clicking on backup now or scheduling the task.
Whenever you run a task again, the backup that is create is NOT shown independently; you only see the task. There can be many individual backup files for each task of course.
To see all the files associated with a task, click on "explore all versions" or "explore and recover" depending on the type of backup task: this will open a window called the backup explorer. All the existing TIB files tracked by the task will be displayed at the bottom of the window, in a timeline.

Are you comfortable with this new behavior in 2011? If yes, you still have a problem with your task. If no, you are just seeing the normal behavior in 2011.

Avi.

Look inside my signature below. Several help links for 2011 there.

Pat thanks again.
Your knowledge much larger than mine, but I can say one thing:

This is not the first time I use TI 2011 .
I did made some backups in the past, and then validate them easily
I don't understand what change now, and what is the thing with tasks

All I want is to validate this new backup, and then to make it available for recover, if I will need it someday…

GroverH
Thanks
I know how to validate a backup, the problem it's not working

Try using the validation option when booted from the 2011 Bootable Recovery CD.

GroverH

Sorry that I didn't saw earlier your last reply.
It's important to mention that when I locate the tib file, clicking "Archive" and then "Validate", nothing happened.

Ok, I will try to make validate from the Bootable.
However, even if it will success, I am not sure that I can use ATI 2011 anymore.
The software seems to me defected, and I can't be sure that backups will work, if I will need a recover!

During five days, I am to trying to connect Acronis support via chat, but without any success.
I sent them email , complaining about that. They just said to try again, but when I am doing so, the same story always repeat
I think that there is not any other choice- I will have to request refund for all the money I paid them. Both for RTI2011 that actually I can't use anymore, and for the extra support payment

I wish a Happy New Year for all the members here!

Here is a method to validate manually from inside TrueImage so you have a choice to validate as part of the task at time of backup or validate later at a time of your choosing. For whatever reasons, the option to validate from inside Windows Explorer does not seem to work every time. This option is supposed to cause TrueImage to start and to validate but sometimes it does not start but fortunately, that still leaves the user the option to validate via the other options. Happy New Year to you as well.

GroverH

First of all, let me thank you for keeping with your help.
I still didn't try to validate from boot CD, and that's because I suspect that the software somehow get damaged.
The new backup, which had been created last month, don't contain any "Back up now" option, so I can't try the method you suggested.

Attached here a screen cap of my ATI2011

Does it seems to be proper?
When trying to delete one of the backups (for example Documents), I am getting the following massage:
Failed to remove: error while checking integrity of the task

Maybe uninstalling of ATI2011 and then installing a clean copy, will solve the problem.
I prefer to this together with an Acronis supporter, but I can't connect them live!

Avi,
From the look of your backups, I would say you have a bit of a mess on your hands.

Look at your drive I, look for any TIB file there, and move all of them to a I:\OLDBackups\ directory. Make this directory hidden for the time being.
Uninstall ATI 2011,
Reboot,
Install ATI 2011 and create new backup tasks. If you modify the destination, name, scheme or retention rules of an existing task, it is better to create a new task from scratch.
Once your OLDBackups will be OLD enough, you can delete them manually.

Thank you Pat
Before reading your message, I had managed to connect Acronis Support via live chat.
After taking control on my PC, he had difficulties to solve the problems (also due to the fact that my OS is in Hebrew).
Then I suggested trying to uninstall ATI2011 and installing a clean copy.
The supporter agree with me, and after doing so,I succeeded to validate the new backup and everything looks fine (at least for now)

I still don't understand what cause this mess

I would like to ask, if it would be better to upgrade to ATI2012?
Is it a more stable version?
Does it will guarantee that these problems will not repeat themselves?

Avi,

With 2012, there are a range of UI changes, but nothing dramatic, significant underlying technology changes that don't make a visible impact for the user but can accentuate issue upon uninstall, a new sync feature that can be valuable, and a range of bugs that will be worked out over time.
If you are like me, you want to use the latest version and you are ready to pay a price for being an early adopter. If you are reasonable, you'd wait until you have a compelling reason to upgrade (new hardware, GPT disks, a need for that sync feature, ...).
If you decide to try 2012, make sure you do a system backup before the installation. Getting rid of 2012 seems to be an issue at this point. Having a system backup will help you get back to 2011 easily.

Thank you Pat
The only reason for upgrading is to avoid similar issues like happened now.
If ATI2012 can't guarantee that, then there's no point for me to pay for new version

Also, if getting rid from 2012 may cause difficulties- well, there is another reason for me to stay with ATI…
