Creating a bootable USB flash (thumb) drive with Snap Deploy Agent AND the image file

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I previously posted a topic title similar to this is the SD3 forum, but I have since upgraded to SD4 so I'm posting here.

I'm trying to create a bootable USB flash drive so I can initiate image deployment from the flash drive. I want to then copy an image file onto that flash drive so I can have a complete deployment from just the flash drive on my key ring.

My issue:
In SD3, you could not create an Acronis bootable environment if the flash drive was NTFS formatted. That would have been ok if my image wasn't bigger than 4GB (which it is). I was led to believe that in SD4, this problem had been fixed.

I am able to run the SD4 bootable media wizard and successfully create a bootable USB flash drive that is NTFS formatted (meaning, the wizard will put the files onto the flash drive). However, when I try to boot from that flash drive, it gives a "bootmgr is missing" error. I need help fixing the boot files so that I can boot from the flash drive.

Thank you,
Phil Duncan

Side note: It seems like this functionality, which should be fairly simple and already available in many other avenues, was grossly overlooked. There is huge potential in the product but oversights such as this are not acceptable. You could even market your product for complete image deployment from just a flash drive if this problem didn't exist. Huge revenue plus/minus opportunity, either from increased customer base (the plus) or loss of customers due to problems that shouldn't exist in the first place (the minus).

I boot SD4 as an ISO from a Grub2Dos enabled USB stick.

Colin, how does your post even remotely help Phillip?

I have not tried this method of deployment but am interested in it (not to mention the licensing aspect of it). Have you tried creating the bootable media with the Standalone Utility?

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your posts and suggestions.

Phillip, to localize the issue, would it be possible to create an ISO file using Acronis Snap Deploy 4 Media Builder, then use this free utility and place it the USB flash drive and boot from it.

We have tested booting from a USB flash drive in our testing lab and we do not have any known issues with this, this issue could be hardware/software specific.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
