Backup & Recovery 11 - remote installation problems

Thread needs solution

HI Wayne,

Scorps weren't so good: noisy sound and too much cool/slow music.

I have tested symantec and it's not so easy to configure; but IT WORKS!
I'll try the other one too...

Hello Everyone -

I received a fix for this problem from Acronis today. I was able to perform remote installs, and backups after the installation. I have confirmed the fix works with support. It is build 17334. The build was placed on a private FTP site for me related to the support case I logged. I don't know what the general availablity will be of the fix, but I would think Acronis would make it available if it's not already.

Now that I have a working version and have been able to use it, it seems Acronis has made some really nice feature improvements in this version.

CIS Admin: I am verry happy to hear that!

Unfortunally they have not released it in public yet.
I am giving this a few days then i am going to uninstall Acronis and not use it anymore.
My patience is gone very soon.

Strange that they does not release it in public, if it is indeed fix the problems with remote installation and other things.

Please if anyone get the release, post comment in here...

My build # is 17334 which is still newer than the current release. I'm surprised it's not out yet. I thought listing the build would help you know when it is released.

Yes! I can also confirme that build # is 17334 is working!

I got it from Acronis agent, on a FTP.

This works. About time. Now i am happy.
Have not had the time to test it very much yet, but the remote installation problem is gone! :)

Hopefully they will release it soon in public so that all of you guys can have working remote installation.

The build feels much improved overall. Much more stable.

Hello CIS Admin and Ulf,

Thank you very much for your comments and we are happy that this issue has been resolved.

If anyone else needs this build, I would really appreciate if you could contact me via a private message so that I can send it to you.

Thank you.

Hello Anton and Everyone,
After reading here that people were getting this new build (17334) I was curious if it was going to be a public release or not. I contacted support directly and they stated that it is not a public release build and that it will not be the next release that is going to be available because it was not a stable build. When asked (pushed) about a timeline, support stated that it will probably be a couple months before the next public release is available (although he acknowledged that development doesn't tell them anything until it is ready for release).

So my question is, what other issues does this build address? Is there more to it than the remote installation issues, or was that the only purpose for that build? Do you have a changelog/release notes/errata/known bugs list so i can evaluate whether or not it is a build i should bother requesting the update? Yes i have remote installation issues, but that is pretty low on my list of priorities.

Thanks,
davidb

Hi davidb

As far as I can say as a tester of the 17334 build, it fixes also some License issues but all other bugs are still here and it's still a beta release at all in my opinion. Also the deploy bugs weren't all fixed yet, we still have some authentication problems with domain accounts on Win7 x64 clients. But finally with this build we are able to deploy 70% of our other clients, and poor us, but it looks like we have to be happy and gratefully for this small peace of correction if it still will take months for the first useable build ;)

I agree.

This is a beta for sure. But i have working backups, and working remote installations wich is a very good thing!

But is Backup Policies gone forever or just in this version?

The only thing i can find is backup plans and tasks in a new section, and i can configure my jobs there, no problem.

However, as i said, there are many bugs, one is that i dont get any success or error message via email, even if i enter that it should email me.
Pressing "test settings" give me the email in my inbox in about one second.
But it does not work so i must manually check if backups has succeded.

Hopefully all theese bugs are gone in the next stable public release. And that those things that actually works now, continues to work :)

I am having the same problem. I am trying to evaluate a $1400 (x2) purchase and this is what they have to offer? I hope I don't have to head to Symantec. Come on Acronis - do your testing before releasing a product.

Yes, there is indeed many bugs yet to be fixed.

1. The email bug. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not - test settings always work
2. the domain/accounts bug - when adding domain account it still says local machine name.domain.local\account name when it SHOULD says domain name\account name.
This is causing many strange problems
3. When succes mail is working, it is FILLED with error messages even when backup succeeds.. It says error accessing vault, error connecting to storage node and other things.
4. where is our backup polices?
5. stability issues and not relialable

The only good thing is that backups are working, and that remote install now working.
I am still talking about this "Beta" that not are released in public.

The latest release in public is pure CRAP.

We are on build 17345 now and have the same bugs as Ulf mentioned and a few others! I will extend his list....

6. All the remote msi components are still not extracting on the management server into the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\RemoteInstaller\17345. There is still just an empty directory but without content. So we still have to extract the msi files manually to this directory. I can't believe that just extracting a few files is a unsolvable problem for acronis since many build versions.

7. Backing up of SSD disks fail with VSS snapshot. If we completly disable the VSS writer we are able to do a backup.

8. Backing up of some traditional disks with Microsoft VSS provider fail with "Unknown Win32 Error" or "reading the snapshot failed". All suggetions from http://kb.acronis.com/content/15725 are not helping to resolve the problem. The disks are healthy, they have no errors and other applications can create, lock and read the Microsoft VSS snapshots on these computers, just ABR isn't able to read.

9. If a backup job fails on a computer because it was shutted down during the job or lost the LAN connectivity or whatever, the backup job still appears into the queue and on the management server as mentioned in http://kb.acronis.com/content/24511. So we have always to use this tool on the management server to cleanup all not successfully finished backup tasks.

10. Still some errors shown in the status of the management console for a few computers, also if the backup was successfully and if we connect to the computer directly, there are no errors at all.

11. The log fills up with "Action failed, sync with agent . was not possible". Instead of the computer name is just a dot in the log. It looks like the management server isn't able to sync with himself from time to time.

12. Remote install/upgrade of servers with an old installed build on it isn't working because the license server is not using the already assigned licenses and want another server licenses. So we have to manually release first the licenses of every server on the license server and then upgrade the core and windows agents on the servers and assign the licenses manually. With workstations it's working, just with servers not.

13. "Failed to detect GRUB loader." error if some external USB drives are attached to a computer.

14. Empty data catalogue, also if all backup jobs have enabled the option.

and so on and so on......I'm really tired of all this bugs and the most annoying thing is, it takes always hours to collect all the needed data for the support! I really want they connect remote now and collect by themself what they need! And they should really fire the product manager of this ABR 11 version, it's just a shame! It will take still months until we can use this product if they won't expand their capacities!

Ditto here on the bugs metioned. Still waiting for "stable" release before upgrading. Only running the new version on 2 machines as a test. I'm getting backups, but overall behavior of system is problematic, errratic and unusable in my environment.

Ulf - I believe creating backup policies is gone for good. Seems like there was a major change in functionality surrounding the concept of policies and i don't believe Acronis will bring them back. However, I was able to find a way to create a backup plan using policy rules. When you are creating a plan, under Backup plans and tasks, when you select items to backup, there should be a radio button on the top right of the dialog that chooses either 'Select items directly', or 'use policy rules for selection'. Selecting the latter lets you "assign" a backup plan to machines based on dynamic, or static groups, or individual machines. Personally, I find this method more confusing than the Policy concept in version 10, but have been able to duplicate what I had in version 10 for Policies.

Will extend my bug list just FYI

15. Now on some computers we can't see the applied backup plans anymore, on some there is still a plan active and running, just not showed on the local or the management console, on some the backup plans are gone and no way to bring the backup plan back to the computers. Not with deleting them from the AMS, not with uninstalling and reinstalling the agents, not with importing the xml file. All this machines are in sync and have no errors!

16. "Failed to detect installed virtual servers" error message on normal computers just with the core and windows agent on it with a normal worstation advanced license bound. There is a technical document in http://kb.acronis.com/content/18742 from ABR10 and oh wonder, we don't use McAfee neither ESET, we use Symantec Endpoint Protection. But we have this error also if we stop all the Symantec services when we install the ABR agents. We uninstalled and cleaned up the registry and reinstalled core and windows agents now plenty of times and we have still the same error.

Very soon should come out a new build, but still not public as a Acronis Techsup employee told me. I really hope this one will fix a few bugs so we can use this product finally as what we paid for.

Now having trouble remotely installing components to a virtual server running windows 2003 server. Get the following errors in the window and have attached the .msi log file...

17. Cleanup (Retention rules) not always working.

Must manuall check that storage node has free space.

Cmon guys, it has been since last september latest build released!
What the hell is going on!?

No, i am still on build 17334 wich i got from Acronis.
But no Stable Release since september 2011.

Where is 17375?

Hmm, sorry Ulf, but you have to ask the support for a download link, because I realized just now that I have only the german version.

I really don't understand why they are so restrictive in publishing such new builds, everything is more stable than the 334 from september.

I understand, thanks anyway.

Hopefully the support staff continues to read this thread and give me a download link.

I totally agree with you, i dont know why they are so restricted with this releases.

Everything is better than the last stable from September.

Hi all

Does anyone could share how build 17375 is working or maybe someone get newer build? In this thread (http://forum.acronis.com/forum/28333) Acronis inform that they expected that officiall relase will be before end of February.

I need this build as well as i am facing the exact same issue. Anton i have PMed you and you are not responding to my queries.
