Imaging drives via newer tech usb2.0

Thread needs solution

Anyone out there using this setup? I have used it very successfully for the past couple years. However I am trying to image an older 2 gb hard drive and not having much luck with it. The drive is identified in "My Computer", but does not come up in Acronis 11.0 build 80xx or 81xx. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

That drive won't be supported by ati11, iirc, you'll need a much newer version. As I recall, 2tb was a threshold becuse of hte way those hdrives work and the drivers needed.

Im working with a 2 GIG drive, not 2 Tera. Its a computer from the mid 90's that runs an alignment machine.

Sorry, I misread. However, the problem is still likely a driver issue. Is it not appearing when starting ATI under windows or when starting ati from the bootCD? Is it a windows or linux system?

windows xp, booting ati 11 under windows. also removed and reloaded ati. (both builds). Still not recognizing usb drive in ati but does see it under my computer and device manager. is there a special patch out there?

Usually, if a dirve isn't seen from within windows, it's a sata drive, not a usb drive -- although usb hubs sometimes presented probs for ATi, including ati11.

If your other drives show up but just this one (type) does not, then it's likely a problem down in the guts of ATI. You could try the bootCD to see if it presents the same problem and you could try this with nousb and then nousb2 parameters to see if it makes a diff using the BIOS or using the botocd linux drivers to address UBS devices. Of course, this would only be helpful to you if the bootcd worked and you were willing to backup via the bootcd. (to set the parameters, you hit f11 at the first window before selecting Acronis Trueimage to get a prompt screen then tab to the entry line and enter the parameter.

The next version of ATi (ati2009) is a substantial change for the ATI9-ati11 series and has substantiallly different drivers and hardware access -- so it might work for you. And ati2011-ati2012 are substantial changes from ati2009-ati2010. You might be able to download a trial version of one of the older versions to try for free to see it one of them conquers the issue. If not, the only free trial Acronis offers is the current version, ati2012.
