Mirroring

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have Acronis 2010 I believe. My old computer finally died, so I just finish rebuilding a new one on a 1TB hard drive. Installed Windows 7, all my apps, Acronis 2010, etc.,

I recently saw a good SSD 120GB on sale. My question is, can I use Acronis to mirror of the 1TB (which only used 100GB at the moment) off to the SSD w/o having to format, reinstall windows, and install acronis on the SSD than do backup restore?

Thanks,

Yes you can. You will have to prepartition your disk and then restore partition by partition.
Since you get an SSD, don't forget to create an offset of 1MB for the first partition you will create, and have each partition have a whole number of MB (1024x1024 bytes). This is to ensure disk alignment.
Once the partitions are created on the SSD, restore each partitioin where it should be using the Acronis recovery CD, with the SSD in place where the old disk was. Don't forget to mark active the right partition.

Have your Windows installation DVD handy so that you can repair your startup if necessary.
