Keeping the Machine Name during OS deployment using Snap Deploy 4

Thread needs solution

I am starting a project to roll out Windows 7 to 1000 PCs across our network and am using Snap Deploy 4 to do so.

One of the key requests from the IT Helpdesk is that the Machine Names remain the same - they currently use the identification tag of the machine and the location of the office as the PC Name so we cannot afford to have the PC name changed. I can see in the documentation how to name a Machine for deployment using wildcards but nothing for keeping the PC Name and I though that was a feature of the software.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks

This is exactly what we are doing too. I haven't tried Acronis Snap4 yet but have read through some of the free material out there like the user guide. I've already tried SMS OSD but run into the same problem.

We want to keep the existing computer name. We don't want to use some generic name like "computer" and then the wildcards. If anything, we may want to keep the existing name and append a "z" to the ned of it. Reimage the computer over the network and have the computer automatically be renamed and joined to the domain.

Is this possible with Acronis? Or can it be scripted somehow via the command line?

I don't want to go through the entire process of trying this out if it can't keep the existing computer name.

Thank you!
