Acronis TIH 2010 "No Windows libraries" errors keep showing up in Log

Thread needs solution

Acronis TIH 2012 "No Windows libraries" errors keep frequently showing up in Log
on Windows XP SP3. I am using unscheduled backups. I "believe" that "nonstop backup" is disabled. I think that this only occurs when the Acronis TIH 2012 is open. How can I stop this error from frequently being entered into the Log? Thanks. /Howard

Howard,

You can ignore this error as you are running XP. The message is meant for W7 users, however until Acronis fix the 'bug' there is nothing you can do for the moment.

I get the same message all the time in Windows XP SP3 as well. I see the previous posts were back in August and still no fix for the bug.

When will this problem be corrected?

Running TIH2012 that I downloaded on 24-Jan-2012 and then Registered on 30-Jan-2012. Running Windows Vista and getting the same Warning Message mutliple times in the log.It runs fine without warnings in my Windows 7 laptop. Can I ignore the message on Vista or is my backup incomplete?

David,

Your backup should be complete. To double check you can explore your image file or if you made partition or disk image you can mount it to check it.

And how does one do that Colin B?

That is to " made partition or disk image you can mount it to check it. "

" Mount It " what is meant by that may I ask. 5,001 posts, wow that is a lot. Are you associated with Acronis?

Cheers, David

@DAVID STEELE: Is it necessary to be impolite and rude? I have learned to know Colin B to be an Acronis user like you and me. Additionally, he is patient and well-mannered.

Do you expect to be capable of driving a car without learning what “a motor” is? Please google “mount disk”, check your ATIH help file, look under “Tools”. Do some effort to achieve your driver license.

My apologies to "Colin B" and yourself "Pinewood'. Sorry.

I did not intend to be impolite or rude!

People however are very concerned with the "No Windows libraries" errors that keep showing up in the Log after running Acronis TIH 2012 backup. This posting started Mon, 2011-08-29 00:12, 6 months ago, with no fix in sight apparently.

I meant a compliment ti 'Colin B' with 5,011 Posts, that is a lot. Also I wondered if 'Colin B' was employed by Acronis to answer users queries, as one finds in many forums, e.g. 'G.Skill"

Until mid December my ATIH 2012 log was fine, showing that each day the backup after work the previous evening had been made, and verified successfully. I had not checked the Log since, as when open Acronis to manually start back-up, the 'Backup and recovery' page reports:
Versions: 26 (last: Yesterday at 8:27PM) So assume backed up and verified OK.

Every day a full backup is made, then for 7 days incremental, with auto clean-up, and a new full backup. I start Acronis manually on a daily basis, as the scheduled backup method stopped working reliably!

Today checked an external H/D so as to to make a "Reserved Copy" of the latest backup from last night. Adjusting the settings I came across the Log report showing "No Windows libraries"

Checking for the "Log Error" out on this forum I found the reply by 'Yana' to a the following comment 27951:

Whenever I open the TIH GUI, a Warning is posted in the TIH Log stating "No Windows libraries". A yellow Warning triangle is also shown on the related Log calendar.

I think I read somewhere that the GUI uses the Windows libraries on Windows 7, however I am running on Vista.

This is a big annoyance and I firmly believe that Acronis should fix this nonsense so that TIH is O/S-aware and does not leave misleading Warning messages. It's a waste of time for us users to have to investigate these Warnings to see if there may or may not be a real issue indicated by these Warnings.

In addition, this corrupts the Log calendar which cannot really be used to get a quick overview of the health of the TIH backup processes.

Please, please arrange to have this bug fixed.
Thanks

"Yana" Thank you for bringing this question up. I understand how frustrating the error can be, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Our Development team is aware of the problem, and currently looking for the reason of the problem. We do not have any ETA regarding when it will be fixed.

This issue is not affecting the backup creation functionality and the safety of the backups themselves.

So 'Pinewood' the Acronis Development Team is looking for a reason? Also apparently they do not know what is causing it, and have no fix!

Consequently we, paying customers, are left with the fear that our ATIH 2012 backups may be corrupt!!

The program is meant to back-up essential data, and restore the same if a 'melt down' occurs. Surely we do not need to understand the basic programming of a retailed product. We have enough work running our business without having to diagnose and fix essential backup software.

We use and trust Windows XP and 7, also Office Professional 2007, and have no need to learn the mechanics of their operation.

At 72yo I expect to be able to use, and depend, on Acronis TIH 2012, along with Microsoft programs etc., without the need to become a computer programmer.

I started programming at university using FORTRAN, also Basic: punching cards with data to enter the mainframe which took up part of a building. Having to go to computer the next morning to pick up the copious printouts, that then had to be processed.

Ah they were the days, and modern computers are immensely powerful compared to our original machines.

All the best 'Pinewood', apologies once more.
Best regards, David

@David Steele,

1. No, I'm not employed by Acronis (nor are the other MVP's all are volunteers), just, like many people here a long time user, in my case since v8 waaaaay back.

2. The 'No Windows Libraries' problem, mainly shows itself on XP systems, as XP doesn't have libraries. Vista is a little more unusual in having this 'error' show up.

I thought this had been resolved in build 6131 onwards. Which build are you using?

The good news is that it can be ignored on those systems that don't have libraries, the bad news is as to why it suddenly appears no one seems to know. It is true though, that Vista indexed the My Documents folder in a different way to to XP, in that it has a group folder. there are people who claim to ahve turned that into a 'libraries' feature, if this is so, that might explain perhaps how 2011/2012 can become confused.

Did this happen after a recent Vista update or application update?

To explore either a disk/partition image or a file backup, you can either click on the 'tib' file in your file manager or right click on the task (if it exists) in the task list and select 'Explore and Recover'.

Mounting can only be performed on a disk or partition image and you need to either click on the 'Tools and Utilities' tab from within TIH and select 'Mount' or if shell integration has worked properly, right click on the 'tib' file and select 'Archive\Mount'

PS: Mark Sense cards and graphite 2B pencils, now that does take me back to being a youngster.

Your apologies are accepted, David. I think Colin B is tough enough to bear your “attack”. However, I think this forum has too many posts filled with hatred. I can understand the frustration, buy let us remember that this is a user forum; the best we can do, is to be kind to each other, and try to be helpful. Most of us, visiting this forum, are very disappointed with Acronis. Be sure, after several years with ATIH, I feel abandoned. I have never needed support with previous versions, but after installing ATIH2012PP, I have opened 3 support tickets.
For the time being, I have left Acronis. I have purchased a Western Digital USB 3.0 HD, capacity 3 TB, it has great software included. “Non stop backup” with no noticeable delay; I am really impressed with the file backup performance. To create disk images, I now use Paragon. The Paragon Linux Boot-CD is reading “My Book Essential” in a proper way. And so do the Actonix Linux CD, BTW.
Have a nice day, all of you.

Seems to me it is just wrong for Acronis to create buggy software, give 30 days support then leave it to the kindness of experienced users to help their customers when their product does not perform.

On this subject, I want to give a big THREE CHEERS to the fok at Serif software, who make photo editing software. Cost about $70 and similar to Adobe. I had a problem with manipulating images and called them. Within minutes I spoke to someone who talked me through the whole thing step by step, no charge.
Now THIS is the type of service one would like from Acronis, even if they have to charge a couple of bucks more per program.

His 5000+ post are the number of times he has freely assisted other users. Colin is a non-paid volunteer and not employed by nor associated with Acronis. Colin is just a extra nice human being trying to help others succeed in making their backups work. All MVP's on this forum are non-paid volunteers.

You wrote something about 26 versions. Hopefully that includes a lot of full type backups.

I agree with you that the "No Windows libraries" error should be fixed but it usually takes some time when ranked to importance. At your young age of 72 (I am older), we have to be a little patient. Good luck with your backups and don't forget to have them validated and do some test restores occasionally. After all, it is to the user benefit to prove to themselves that their restore procedures will work when needed. Once the data crisis arises, it is too late to begin testing.

Dear Forum,
I'm new to this but not to Acronis, although have nowhere near the knowledge you all have. Forgive me!
Using XP, have 2012 Acronis, just updated it.
Every day at 5 it backs up ... except for now. I remembered I had been told to empty the back up folder (a shortcut on my desk - gives you an idea that I'd have no idea where to find it otherwise) and I did empty it apart from last back up.
However it tells me now that back up failed: 'error while parsing script file'; 'no windows libraries'; 'configuration file cannot be created'.
I have tried to understand your postings above/below and do understand that some of these alerts are errors in system: however my back ups are not taking place either automatically or manually. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Katherine

Katherine,

In your case it sounds as though the task script might have become corrupted. What happens if you try to run the task manually?
