Not able to boot from Bootable CD

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I've created a bootable CD but the BIOS does not recognize it as such. When I look into the content of the CD, it only has a folder named 'Recovery Manager' with no other files in the root directory. I think this is the problem as the BIOS only sees a folder.

I have already select CD in the boot options of my BIOS. Also my motherboard has the option of selecting the boot device without entering the setup menu and the CD doesn't appear.

Thanks

You created the BootCD from within ATI? If so, then maybe ati muffed it while burning the CD. So, let's try making one another way.

Assuming your serial number is registered, log into acronis.com, click on Product Updates, navigate to your version and look for the BootCD download. This is an iso file that can be burned as an image onto a CD (I like to use imgburn.exe (it's free) but you can use any prog that will burn an image to CD (as opposed to jsut copying a file onto a CD. See if that bootCD works.

The Acronis booCD isn't any special kind of CD, just one that boots up linux and then loads ati.

If you Explore the CD, it should show a single directory called "Recovery Manager", which contains the following files:

Hi Scott,
I've tried the steps you mentioned, downloading the iso image called ATIH2012_en-US and burning it with imgbrn.

When I restart with the CD in, it goes straight into loading Windows XP (you mentioned that the CD is for Linux, could this be the cause for the CD not working?)

What I get from this is that my BIOS is not recognizing it as a bootable CD.

What seems to be problem?

Thanks

At this point, I doubt that it's either CD. You coud try them on another PC to check that they are bootable.
The fact that it's linux OS on the cd shouldn't matter. I can't imagine a modern PC not able to boot linux.
Can you boot any other CDs from the machine at this time?

Is your BIOS set to boot from CD/DVD before hard disk drive?

You could try creating the bootable media to USB flash drive and try booting from that, if your BIOS is first set to boot from removable media before HDD.

Thanks to both, I have resolved the issue. The IDE CD option was first instead of PCI CD in the BIOS Boot options.

Everything is working fine.

Thanks again.
