Small System State Backup with True Image 2010

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I'm using TrueImage 2010 on a couple of PCs, all running Windows 7. On my main desktop the system state backup is about 14GB. On a laptop which has not much more than a default Windows install it's abnout 3.5GB.

On my main laptop which has a large software set installed (almost as much as the desktop) the backup completes very quickly and the file is only about 2GB. If I watch the progress bar it seems to go almost instantly from 32% to 100%. However, the process claims to have completed without errors, and runs through verification OK.

I'm worried that the process is silently failing but not backing up the whole system state. I'm also worried that this could be causing a problem with my disk-based backups.

Is there any way to check and see what's happening? Is there any known cause of these symptoms?

Thanks
Andrew

Understand that the backup of system state provides very little protection. It is similar to backing up the registry. This type backup was dropped from the options on the following version. Your best security is to do a disk option backup. Check mark the disk so all partitions are included in the backup. A system state backup is useless if you need to create a new or replacement disk .

I understand what a system state backup is and what it gives me. Some of my disks are too large to backup the whole disk to removeable storage every week. The system state backup is a good supplement to a differential file backup.

Can you explain what is actually going wrong with the system state backup, or where I should look for details?
Thanks
Andrew
