Failed to read data from the disk.

Thread needs solution

I'm attempting the make a bootable hdd with more space on my Windows 7 netbook and I'm getting this error message:

Failed to read data from the disk.
Failed to read from sector '261,243,424' of hard disk '2'.
Direct R/W operation has failed. (0x590001)
Retry Ignore Ignore All Cancel (Are the options available after this error)

I bought a WD Scorpio Blue Sata 320GB hdd for cloning purposes but I consistently receive this error. (3rd time)

Please Help!!

Hello Francisco,

Normally this error indicates that the drive is corrupted. Try the following:

  1. Start -> Run -> cmd
  2. chkdsk /r /f
  3. Press Y when the command line offers you to run disk check upon startup
  4. Reboot the machine

Upon booting Windows will check the drives for consistency, and fix the errors if any. If the problem remains, please provide us with the Acronis Report and Windows System Information File.

Let us know if you have any additional questions, we will be glad to help you.

Thank you.
