selected file is not an Acronis True Image Home archive

Thread needs solution

I backed up a disk partition on a Windows XP Home system, onto an external USB drive - full.
I moved the drive to a Vista system.
Trueimage on the Vista system says the archive file is not an archive file.

In the Archive Selection window, selecting the archive file's name produces "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Home archive."
Clicking Next produces "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Home archive or the file is corrupted. Please, select another file."

Is there an issue with opening XP backup files on a Vista system?

I really doubt that the OS is the issue. Either the backup is corrupted or the version of ATI that made the tib is newer than the one with which you are trying to reading it. Or the backup was made with a version older than ATI10.

Can you open and verify the tib when the disk is attached to the original computer? If so, you might try the bootCD for that same version of ATI on the other machine to see it will recognize the tib there.
