Can someone help on Hibernate question
Hi All
Im currently using true image 2011 on a windows 7 64 bit system, at the moment my power options are just set to turn the monitor off after 20 mins.
i have just decided to start using the hibernate option on the pc as my start up times are taking a while and using hibernate improves this greatly.
What i wanted to know is how i can edit the schedule of my current tasks, i have 6 in total, so i can check to see if acronis will wake the pc to perform the back up task, the other problem i think i might have is that the external disk that the backups are stored on has to be turned on with a button on the back, so im thinking that if the external hard disk is on when the system hybernates then will it turn back on when it comes out of that state, i suppose the easiest option would be to try it, but im at work at the moment and only just thought of this.
Do you think i could edit the schedule on one task without it messing up the task as i know TI2011 doesnt respond well to back up tasks being edited! ;-)
If anyone can give me some advice that would be great, the other reason for doing this is so when my back up start its not affecting me working on the pc as i will be asleep! at the moment if a backup task starts i stop what im doing as i do quite a lot of video editing/rendering & burning so my hard drive use is quite high, hence i dont like to do that while the tasks are running.
Thanks
Pete

With ati2011 you can set a task to wake a pc aAND to not net the pc go into standby while a task is running. It should be under the Schedule Advanced Option when you create a task. IF your pc isn't set up to automatically go into standby or hibernate, it won't.
If you leave the switch on the external drive on, it shold come back on when the system wakes up. However, some security software will then ask if you want to scan that drive, requiring a user response. You'll have to try it and see.

pete,
Editing the schedule options is one of the rare things you can tweak ad nauseum without endangering the task.
I personally deselect any option that prevents the computer to sleep during backup, or that waits for the computer to be idle.
YOu will have to try whether ATI can wake up your computer from hibernate. I would guess it won't.
To put your computer to sleep after the backup, you can use a post command.
I like to use the Hybrid Sleep mode (enable it in the power configuration options). This way the computer can resume if there is a power interruption.
rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState will trigger the option that you have configured in the Power Options.

Thanks for all the advice guys, hopefully i will get chance over the wekend & report back with the results.
Is there a post command i can use to put the pc into hibernate instead of Hybrid sleep, just in case i want to try that instead??
Thanks

I routinely use these commands to deny or assert Hibernate mode on my PC, though honestly I do not know if they'll work as Post commands with your ATIH:
Don't hibernate:
powercfg -change -hibernate-timeout-ac 0
Go ahead and hibernate after 30 mins:
powercfg -change -hibernate-timeout-ac 30

You might be interested in this guide. The command offered by Tom in post #5 could be used as a replacement for my shutdown command.

Thanks all for your help, i cant do anything right now as i've realized that me external disk is plugged into my energy saver extension socket and when the pc goes off so does the external hard disk, i have tried sleep & hibernate and both fail to turn the drive back on.
The main problem i have is that i haven't got any plug sockets left to use on the normal extension!! Its always the little things that are sent to try us.
Oh and if anyone bumps into Mudcrab can they let him know that i've sent him an email about using Drive notify, another thing thats driving me nuts :-(
Thanks again

On our power plug, try using a little adapters which allow you to plus 3 items into one receptacle outlet; or use a multi outliet power string plugged into the single outlet used for the computer or no power savings.
Don't forget, the power settings inside the computer has a settings for keeping usb always on while the computer is on.
I really like the Drive Notifiy. I have used it for several years without any issues whatsoever. Once the settings is properly configured, it just works and works without issue. I am using the paid version for its automation features.

Thanks Grover, the trouble is that im using 2 extension sockets and one of them has a 3 way adaptor in it, so i dont want to overload it anymore, im sure i will figure something out.
Thanks again for everyones help & advice.

Ok all
i have managed to change the external disc to another plug and i have tested TI and it wakes up the pc and performs the back up task, but can someone please tell me how to set up a Post Command to put the PC to sleep say around 2 minutes after the task finishes.
Thanks

I use psshutdown -d on my computer (since it actually results in returning the computer to sleep mode). You can find it here. You'd probably want to use: psshutdown -d -t 120
