Cannot recover files from mounted partition image - access denied
When I mount a partition backup image with the aim to recover some specific files by copying, I get an access denied message. I am aware that this is a permissions issue since the user credentials are different now to those at the time of the backup. I am having difficulty implementing the workaround suggested in kb article 1549.
This kb article, "When Trying to Explore Certain Folders of a Mounted Image Archive, Access Denied Message Appears", suggests a workround...
- 1. You can restore just the folders you need by running the Acronis True Image Recovery Wizard and selecting the Restore specified files or folders option.
However, I am struggling with the suggested workround because the recovery dialogue doesn't give me an option to restore specified files. Am I missing something? Is there some other recovery wizard I should be using to get this option? I just need a bit more guidance - can anyone help?
I don't want to use the second workround method because I have too little disc space to restore the whole archive to a separate partition.

That's an awful lot of aggro just to recover a couple of important files! It ought to be simpler than that. Why doesn't the first workround seem to work? Can you tell me that? Remember that I am a humble home user!
I will in future with the benefit of 20:20 hindsight buy more disc space and partition it into several chunks to give more flexibility - that lesson I have learnt! Unfortunately it doesn't provide a convenient solution to an immediate problem.

You should be able to restore selected files and folders from the backup image. Select to restore the disk backup, then select the Recover chosen files and folders option for the Recovery method. Then select the location. Finally, select the files and folders to recover.
If you still have problems, can you post a screenshot of where TI isn't letting you select them?

SOLVED.
The normal restore options from the main interface don't give you a choice to restore files and folders BUT I have now discovered that what you have to do from the backup and restore tab, is right click on the image you want and, hey presto!, there is an "explore and recover" option. Selecting this gives you two tabs - "discs and partitions" or "files and folders". If the files you want to recover are hidden ones, you need to set the relevant view options in explorer not to hide system files and folders. Select the files you want and then recover. You can specify an alternative location. JOB DONE! I wish the language used in the KB article describing what to do was a bit more precise.
