Please advise how to manipulate SSD drive holding SYSTEM C: for exclusive system use.

Thread needs solution

Hi,
Please advise how to:

I run WIN7, on a well specified PC. I have Acronis True Image Home 2012.

I have an 80 GB SSD which has two partitions. One for SYSTEM C:, and the other for Games K:, split evenly.

I also have a new 750GB SATA drive fitted in case but not connected. I also have a new external eSata G-Drive 2TB, which I am using for Acronis backups.

The SYSTEM C: partition is nearly full and giving me warnings.

So, I want to remove the GAMES K: to either of my spare drives, and use the whole SSD for the SYSTEM C:.

How should I go about this such that I dont lose my SYSTEM in the process?

Thank you

You realy want to be on a Microsoft forum. It's not an ati issue. But basically you want to uninstall any programs in the non-sys partiton and reinstallthem specifying the new partition as the desired locaton. You can't jsut rstore the program files to a new disk or the windows registry will be all messed up expecting the programs in one place and they won't be there. The way to get the reigstry corect is to uninstall and then install in desired location. Data files you can copy or move to the new partition. Be sure then to set up your programs with the data directories correctly.

You could probalby get by just moving teh data files -- make new directories on target, mvoe the files. Tell each program that uses the data files where to look for them -- seeyour program;s nstructions or user guide on how to do this.

You could use ati to do some of this but it wouldn't be much help.

What I would do is create a backup image of K: (make sure it validates successfully), use Disk Management to delete K: from the SSD, restore the K: image to the spare drive and make sure it is assigned as K:, then use Disk Management to expand the C: partition to fill the SSD.

You can usually get away with moving a non-system partition to another drive as long as you keep the same drive letter assignment. If you want to play it safe, create a Entire Disk Image backup of the SSD before you begin.

Hi, thank you for your advice.

As mentioned above, I have an 80GB SSD, partitioned in two equal partitions, one for the C: System, and the other for Games. I found the C: partition to be dangerously full, and the games partition nearly empty. So I want to delete the games partition and allocate the whole drive to System C:.

I have now completely deleted and formatted the partition I used for games. (I had not got very far in them anyway!)

I started up with the recovery disc and went into disc management, where I found that I could delete the partitions, when I would also lose all data in the C:drive. I thought better of it and returned to Windows.

Do you think I could have deleted all the partitions on the drive, obtained an empty clean drive, and simply restored the C:drive backup I already have, onto the empty drive? I mean, would everything be working again? Except the games, of course. Or what else can I do to fulfill my need.

Many thanks

I would still do as I previously posted. Just go to Windows Disk Management and delete the (now empty) K: partition. Then right-click on C: and expand it to fill the drive (Windows can do this while it's running and it only takes a couple seconds). TI isn't required for this.
