Clone HD to SSD with less AVAILABLE space

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have Acronis True image HD. I am trying to clone Windows 7 - 64-bit OS from HDD to SSD. BUT my SSD has less available space then HDD

HDD has 2 partitions:
C: Windows 7 OS & some PROGRAM - 50GB with 40GB used
D: some PROGRAM & DATA - 200GB with 200GB used.

SSD 120GB

Is it possible to clone C: drive only to SSD? If not, is there any other method to achieve this?

I tried the following but failed:
1. Use Clone function of the software and SKIP whole D: drive.
2. Set boot drive to SSD in Bios setting.
3. Boot to Windows 7 but it flash a blue screen and reboot again.

Did I miss any steps? Please help. Thanks!

IF you clone, you lcone the whole hdrive to another hadrive.
use the backup disk mode instead. YOu can backup any and all partitons and restore each partition to one or more locations.

With w7 there is usually a reserved partition (about 100MB to 1.6GB) , windows doesn't give it a drive letter but it is where the Boot Manager is and is necessary for booting up w7.

It's posslbie to install w7 so that it uses only one partiton; in which case you'd need only that partition to be able to boot. If any of your programs pointed to the other partition , they will still expect it to be there.
