[Resolved] How to get rid of 2012 and go back to 2010 ?

Thread needs solution

I have had the serious displeasure of 'upgrading' to 2012 - Big mistake...... Crashes my PC , will not mount images - will not restore images...

After several attempts with Chat Support and Remote Control sessions I have concluded that 2012 is garbage.

How do I remove it and revert tp 2010 which I purchased through the Diskwizard offer ?

Thank You

The option with the best chance of success would be to restore a 2010 backup.

Otherwise, you could use the 2012 cleanup utility (check signature below for link).

Thank you - After uninstalling how do I restore my prior version (2010)?

Do I just install it or do I have to install DiskWizard and then install 2010?

???

Just start the 2010 install program from your 2010 download and keep your fingers crossed that it will succeed.

If you were not using the latest version of 2010, now would be a good time to use it as your install.

This is the most frustrating piece of software I have ever used....

I uninstalled - Ran Cleanup - Removed registry keys to get rid of 2012

Tried to install 2010 and I am asked for my prior version serial.

I DID NOT HAVE A PRIOR VERSION !

So _ I attempt to install Diskwizard which got me interested
in Acronis in the first place

I get errored out wit a message telling me the 'process has been interrupted'

What the H-LL - I have used freeware apps that are easier and better behaved than this...

So now all my archived data is being held hostage since I have discovered that its all ina PROPRIETARY FILE FORMAT !!!!!!!

I would really appreciate some help with this.......

What TrueImage backups do you have of your Drive C partition?

The TI bootable media CD can restore your archives. Best to use the same version as when created; otherwise, use the latest version for restoring if the same version CD is not available.

To be completely honest I feel a bit cheated by paying what I did for TIH 2012. It will not not work at all for me on XP, Vista, Win 7, or Win 8.

I went through a related issue I have been running 2010 with no problem....which is why I never bothered with 2011. I made the big mistake of upgrading to 2012 and for the life of me couldn't get it uninstalled. No tool or add/remove programs would work. Oddly I finally got it removed by noticing that Acronis entries still remained in the device manager on the control panel. Once I deleted those 2012 came off easily and I reinstalled 2010 with no problem.

IMHO Acronis should refund people for 2012....as a developer myself I would be totally embarassed to put out a product like 2012 that had so many problems.

GroverH - there are none on my c drive I have not used TIH to back-up my system drive - In any case how would that help? - I would lose all my data created since a back-up - if I had one... I trusted that 2012 would 'do no harm' - big mistake. I just want get back to where it all worked previously - I had installed DiskWizard (which will now not install) and took advantage of the promotion to 'upgrade'. This was in 2010

My primary use of TIH has been to archive disks from old computers for easy future access. I have about half a dozen drives pulled from obsolete systems imaged so that I can have access to their contents. I simply want to be able to read the data by mounting and/or exploring

Alexander - Thank you for echoing my concerns, clearly this is a very troubled application and customer support is completely ineffective. I will try looking in the device manager as you suggest.

(update) - no entries in device manager - do you recall where you saw them?

2012 is notoriously hard to get rid of -- there are numerous threads on this. There is a thread by Richard that details a cleanup process, but even with these steps, there are some low-level files that remain. In some cases, the installer clobbers low-level divers and rtl libraries with 2012 replacements. I posted a definitive list of 'before' and 'after' system folder contents to show exactly what the installer is doing (in my case, it killed the ramdisk driver, so the os had to be restored from archive -- no removal worked), but the thread was deleted by Acronis. I'll find the excel spreadsheet and repost.

Your best bet is to boot from an iso CD and restore from archive (which it appears you are attempting). If you don't have an iso, but a 2012 license, you can download and burn a 2012 iso, boot from it and restore a 2010 archive to your system disk. From that point on, you will be back on 2010.

Just to clarify - At this point I would be happy to just be able to read and/or mount the images - I am not attempting to restore my system, simply access stored data..

I have managed to - (although unknown how ) - get DiskWizard to install on the 4th attempt. But now find that it only recognizes some of the images - I posted a thread regarding Compatibility to deal with this.

I am leaning toward now attempting an install of 2010 on top of the DiskWizard - No Idea if that is advised, but thats how I did it 2 years ago..

Anyone have thoughts on that - My attempt to install just 2010 failed as it was asking for a prior serial which clearly I do not have.

Thanks

There doesn't appear to be a consensus. If you have a backup of your current disk, if things goes wrong, your backup could be restored.

Perhaps you might want to send a PM to Acronis moderator and ask what is the correct procedure.

Some info can be found in doing a forum search for

I wish I could have been of more help.

The best way to get rid of any program is to have Revo Uninstaller. They have a free version the last time I looked. This program hunts down every last bit of registry entries and deletes them. I have used it many times and it it great. The only thing you have to watch out for is when it runs the programs uninstaller and it asks to restart the computer, answer no or later. Revo will then complete its work and clean up the rest of the entries.

If you are looking to do an uninstall from a messed up install or any install, Jason's recommendation is a good one. I liked the free version enough to buy the purchased one and the purchased one has so many more features.

Hi guys - Thanks - But I am beyond uninstalling (hopefully others will benefit from the advice), please read the thread.

I am asking if I should risk installing the 2010 version over the current DiskWizard install - which is how I acquired ATI in the first place.

Or should I go back to the point before I installed DiskWizard and try 2010 from scratch - Note that I already wrote that I tried that right after removing 2012 completely ( I used Revo BTW) and it failed - asking me for a prior serial...

Thanks

Werner,

If your 2010 version is an upgrade version, it will ask you for your previous license information (in this case the DiskWizard license number).
If your 2010 version is a full version, it will not.

Either way, you don't need to have DiskWizard intalled to install 2010. In fact, it is recommended to uninstall DiskWizard before you install 2010.

If you end up having a license number issue, contact Acronis support so that they can help you out.

I have a feeling that DiskWizard uses an embedded serial number so the user has no knowledge of what that is. As Pat says, contact Acronis support as I believe they have a way of applying a Acronis upgrade number without having to re-install DiskWizard.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your posts and your help Grover, Pat and Colin.

Werner, when you upgrade from Seagate DiscWizard to Acronis True Image Home you receive an upgrade serial number which cannot be used to install Acronis True Image Home on its own because it requires the serial number for the previous version of Acronis software.

You need to have the Seagate DiscWizard application on your machine in order to upgrade. The serial number information is stored in the Seagate software just like Colin wrote in his post.

Please note, if you have an older version of the Seagate DiscWizard program, it may not have the serial number information. If you get a notification to provide the previous serial number for Acronis True Image Home, please download the latest build of the Seagate DiscWizard software from here.

gospodinwizard, thank you very much for your feedback. I forwarded your message to our Management team via Acronis Customer Listening System. I could not find any cases in our Support system for the issues you mentioned. Acronis True Image 2012 Home does not support Windows 8 yet. Please let me know if there is anything else we can do for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions please.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info - I was able to install the 2010 version I purchased over the existing DiskWizard with no error mesages. I then installed the most current 2010 update and fully expected all to be well.

Unfortunately it DOES NOT WORK as it did prior to my installing 2012...

Are you trying to mount images created by ATIH 2012? With ATIH 2010 you can only mount images made by ATIH 2010 or earlier, 2011 and 2012 are not compatible.

Werner,

Have you used the 2012 cleaner utility, which should wipe all remaining information about 2012 in registry and allow you to re-install 2010?

The 2012 cleaner is here

I don't want to hijack this good thread, but felt it was as an appropriate place as any to ask a simple question. I have 5 licenses of various ATIH, 3 are 2012, one is 2011, one is 2010.

I am at the point where I would like to revert to 2010 on all my licenses, since I feel it works best in my home network environment right now. A mixed install of Win7 and XP.

Can I request 2010 compatible license keys for 4 of my licenses that are newer? I guess another way to ask this question would be do my 3 ATIH 2012 Family Pack licenses allow me to run older versions if I find that 2010 works better for me?

Thanks in advance.

Gerry-

Gerry,

I think you'd have to talk to Acronis Sales about that.

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for your posts and your valuable feedback.

Werner, we are currently working on this issue in the case # 01513210 and if you have any questions about it feel free to post in the special dedicated thread that we have for such requests.

Since the initial post had to do with installing Acronis True Image 2010 Home over Seagate DiscWizard and it has been resolved, I will be locking this thread.

Thank you.
