Backup Generations with TR\

Thread needs solution

I have ATH 2010 on my desktop and ATH 2011on my laptop.

I have my desktop tasks set up to do a full backup on the first of the month with a user command that runs a bat file that renames teh current directory and creates a new current directory. Every month I have a full backup and incrementals (which are run a couple times a week) in it;s own folder.

I would like to do this with 2011on my laptop.

Can I and how do I set it up?

Thanks

If you want your backups storage in separate folders, you only have two choices. Clone your desktop batch file onto laptop; or supplement 2011 with the free Chain2Gen(C2G) helper program--which could also be used on the desktop and the laptop. If C2G used, each chain would be in its own folder and the folders names would be \your choice of folder names\set0\your backup file name.tib
The set0 is a requirement as the storage folder for the current backup and when a new chain is due, the set0 is rotated into set1 and set0 becomes empty for the starting new backup.

As 2012 and 2011 is different than 2010, this example of 2012 could be helpful.

Figure 5 shows how to make a disk option backup and figure Figure 11-inc shows how to make a custom backup chain which create a new full backup after a specific number of incs. You can change the 6 and 4 examples to fit your needs.

The 2011 does have the option to create and retain x number of backups but all the storage would be in one folder--as shown in some examples below.
