Acronis True Image Home 2011 cannot compress NTS from WIN7

Thread needs solution

Hi

I've done an image of the whole hard disk with 50GB data using Acronis True Image Home 2011 and the image file is 50GB.
Why Acronis cannot compress NTFS from WIN7 Prof. 64-bit?

Chris:

The most likely cause is NTFS corruption on your disk. If Acronis True Image detects disk errors it switches into sector-by-sector mode, which will cause the resultant image file to be very large compared to a typical compressed image. Try running chkdsk X: /f on each partition on your disk, replacing X: with the drive letter of the partition. Windows will need to reboot to complete the disk check on the main C: partition. Afterwards, try creating another image and check the file size.

I'd recommend using /r which does the same thing as /f but also scans for physical errors, bad sectors and marks them as bad after trying to recover (move) the data.
