Cloning an SSD and a HDD to a single disk

Thread needs solution

In my system, most often used softwares and documents are in an 160 Gb SSD. Other softwares and documents are in a 500 Gb HDD.
1. Can the two disks be cloned using a single disk using Acronis Migrate Easy?
2. Can you suggest a better practice?

A lie is a lie even when everybody believes it.
The truth is true even when nobody believes it.

Virgilio,

I don't understand your second post but as far as your first one is concerned, no, Migrate Easy won't combine your two disks. What needs to be done is the following.

1. Resize the partition on your 500GB to allow space for the 160GB partition.

2. Make an image of your 160GB disk (not a clone but an actual image.

3. Recover that 160GB disk image to the new partition on your 500GB drive.

4. Boot so that Windows can update registry entries. If you are using Windows 7 you might also need to rebuild the BCD, but only if the bootloader complains it can't find Windows.

5. Make a complete image of the 500GB drive.

6. Merge the two partitions together.

If using Acronis products you will need True Image and Disk Director, in both cases using the recovery CD to perform the actions. Otherwise, use True Image to make the images and whatever other disk utility you have for the disk resizing and merging of partitions.

Note of course you don't have to merge the partitions, personally I'd keep the OS on one partition and the data on another.
