Issue with Windows catalog database after cloning a disk
Hi Guys,
have found some issues after cloning a disk.
The windows Update is not working and I cannot install programs that requires valid certificates.
The reason for this is that the Windows catalog database is broken. In ..\system32\catroot2 there is a dberr.txt that contains a lot of entries like:
CatalogDB: 17:15:12 01.09.2010: catadnew.cpp at line #1900 encountered JET error -583
CatalogDB: 17:15:12 01.09.2010: catadnew.cpp at line #901 encountered JET error -583
CatalogDB: 17:15:12 01.09.2010: JetInit Corruption
I have tested all available options from here, but no success: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798/en-us
The funny thing is that cloning back the broken installation back to the original disk all is working fine again.
I suspect that the issue is related to the different sector size or other disk geometry settings of the new disk. (its much larger as the original).
Anybody has seen this issue and has a possible solution?
cheers,
Dirk

MowGreen- Your comment on HP got me thinking and changing my GoogleFooo. I came upon sp47845 from HP. Installed it for the heck of it and now I'm cookin'!
Sony and Intel were certainly of no help. But HP was. Thanks!

My issue with Windows Update and Windows Mail was also fixed by updating Intel Rapid Store Technology Driver ( not from HP but directly from Intel ( 10.8.0 )
Notebook: Toshiba Satellite
Old Drive Toshiba MK3252GSX
New Drive Western Digital WD3200BPVT
To fix the Mail issue I followed instructions at http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62560-windows-mail-problems.html
And doing the old trick with renaming folders Download and Datastore in Windows/SoftwareDistribution plus reboot also made Windows Update working again.......
