Cloning Disc Did Zip (i.e. nothing)

Thread needs solution

Well my first attempt at using TrueImage seemed to have failed. I guess this is technically my 2nd attempt because I did a backup just to test it and that seemed to work.

But cloning didn't do anything. I added a 2nd drive, using the Add New Drive and that part worked. My new 256G SSD was recognized and showed up as empty.

Then, I tried the Clone Disc to copy my OS to the new drive and filled in the Source, Destination, Move Method, etc. After I selected Proceed, it said it needed to reboot. I confirmed and it rebooted and the Acronis loader came up. I had a blue screen with the mouse cursor and a small EN in the lower right. There was nothing else on the screen and no sign of anything happening.

After about a minute, the system reset again and didn't give me the option to shut down or swap drives or anything like the manual said. After the 2nd rebooting, my system came back to windoww, and everything was as it was before. C was still c and my new drive was still blank.

I did put the new drive in place of the original, just in case there really was something there but it got to the boot screen and said it couldn't find the boot records or something, which confirmed that nothing was cloned.

The directions seemed pretty straight forward. But it didn't transfer anything from C to the new drive.

So, does this ring any bells that might suggest why cloning didn't work?

You have to do cloning from the recovery CD. Boot your computer on it. When you use the recovery CD, you will notice drive letters are not the same as in windows. Pay attention to disk labels to recognize your drives.
If you clone to an SSD, choose the manual method. As you do this, you will be able to verify that ATI is proposing a 1MB empty space before the first partition. This is important to ensure disk alignment. You will be able to change the size of partitions, if necessary.

The manual doesn't say anything about having to clone from a CD. In fact, I followed the directions letter for letter and there was no mention of even requiring a CD to clone a drive. There is mention of an "alternate" way of doing it, by using a recovery technique. But according to the manual, this should be able to be done directly, without creating a recovery CD. They just said to instal the drive, gave the directions to follow, which I did and there was never any mention of using a boot CD.

Where are the instructions that say to clone from a recovery CD?
Why is there a Clone option under Tools, which is what the mnual says to use, if you can't clone from there?
Are the instructions that begin on pay 176 not accurate?
I did create a Bootable Media but when I booted to it, there was no clone options.

Can you provide some details on this?

Are you using the trial version?

No! In fact I bought the 3 pack license. When it starts, it says "The product has been successfully activated". I sure hope I haven't made a mistake buying this. I only wanted it for the clone feature.

Because of your comment, I went back and created another "Bootable Media DVD" from the Backup and Restore tab. I also created a "Full Backup" image, using the "Disc and Partition Backup" and tried that method. But that is distinctly different from clone. Even that didn't work. For some strange reason, I can't get past "Settings of Partition C". It automagically selects partitions on two different discs. And I have no way to make any selections there.

But it is the clone I'm trying to use and the instructions are very clear on how it's supposed to work. Everything is exactly as shown in the instructions, up to the point where it says it will ask for a reboot. It asks for it, I say restart and it goes to the Acronis loader, which is nothing but a blue Acronis screen, with nothing happening. After about a minute, it boots back to Windows and I'm exactly where I started. Nothing was ever cloned and there is no progress shown.

Just before it gets to that blue screen, there is a quick flash of an error that says it can't find libpcap.so and googling that indicates it's a linux file. Why it's looking for a linux file on my Windows machine is beyond me. I don't even know if that's really a problem but it does show the error that the file can't be found.

So far my experience with TrueImage is leaving me feeling like I made a huge mistake.

Talked to tech support, via chat. They said to use the bootable media but that didn't work either. When I boot with the bootable media, it can't see my NEW SSD.

I have used the Add New Disc from the tools and Windows 7 sees the drive. TrueImage sees the drive from the Windows environment. But when I boot to the bootable media, it can't see the new drive. So it's impossible to specify the new drive as the destination.

Let's start over on this.

OS: Window 7, 64 bit
Drive 0: 128G SSD (C:)
Drive 1: Old Drive C: (E: and F: now)
Drive 2: 1T Drive for backup (G:)
Drive 3: New 256G SSD (H:) (this is the drive I'm trying to clone to) I want C: cloned onto H:

Both my SSD are Samsung 830 drives

I have tried to clone from running "Clone Disc" from TrueImage in the Windows environment (doesn't work)
I have downloaded (and also created) the "Bootable Media" and tried to clone by booting to it (doesn't work)
I have called Tech Support and they have tried to make it work remotely (doesn't work)
I have reviewed the Knowledge based article (17540) on cloning
I have disabled all firewalls and anti-virus for each of these above
I have ran CHKDSK D: /r and it checked out fine. When I try CHKDSK C: /r I get a notice that says it can't be "locked" because it's being used by another process.
I have added the "new" disc, using TrueImage
My TrueImage program has been updated to the latest buile (6154)

I have two sets of symptoms

Symptoms 1:
When I run "Clone Disc" from TrueImage, in the Windows 7 environment, I can see all 4 drives. I follow the instructions from page 176 in the manual and everything is as it says in the user's guide. It says it needs to "restart" to complete this clone and I say OK. It boots to the Acronis loader and goes to the blue screen showing the mouse cursor and EN in the lower right. But that's it. Nothing else. No progress is shown. There is no sign of any cloning taking place. After about a minute, it resets again and returns to the Windows 7 environment. Disc H: is unchanged and still blank. Nothing was cloned.

Now, when loading the acronis loader, there is a text message that says something to the effect that \bin\ipwatchd and file libpcap.so cannot be found. This is apparently a shared library. I googled this and it indicates something to do with linux. Not sure why it's referencing linux because linux has never been on this system.

Symptoms 2:
When I run from the "bootable media", I can't complete the clone process, because the bootable media does not even see my NEW SSD that has been installed. I cannot even select it as the destination drive. It's not that I can't find the drive letter. It's that the drive itself isn't shown. I have 4 drives and only 3 are shown, when using the bootable media.

I get the same error as n symptom 1, when loading the boot loader.

Drive H does exist however. In the Windows environment and even True Image can see it in the Windows environment. I have moved files to it and from it. It is perfectly functional.

I'm attaching some screenshots showing my system.
The first attachment discs.jpg, shows my 4 drives.
The second attachment disc3 shows what the KB article says I should see.
The third attachment shows that my system which is slightly different.

I'm trying to clone C: onto H:

Does anyone have any suggestions on doing this? Tech Support doesn't even seem to be able to make it work.
If I can't get this to work, will I be able to get a full refund? I purchased the 3 license pack. I prefer to get this working but if it can't clone, I can't use the product.

PS: I have tried Backup and Recovery and it won't work either. But that will be another post, if I ever get clone working

This problem has been resolved. I got this to work using Backup instead of clone. Works perfectly.
