after recovery, XP does not start

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I made a backup from my XP-System and installed Windows 7.
Due to some technical issues of my Notebook I would like to use XP again.
I made a recovery and the XP-Start-Window appears, than it stops. XP does not start.

I have no idea what went wrong.
Maybe some one has an idea how to solve that, or force XP to start.

Thanks for the help.

Assuming that:
a) you did a disk and partition backup (not a file backup)
b) your backup contains all the partitions that were shown by ATI,
c) you restored all the partitions and the MBR+Track0,

Your backup should be fine.

Can you describe what restore steps you take in details?

If you restore steps are correct, given what you describe (ie that Windows starts but gets stuck), I suspect that at least one of the assumptions is wrong...

c: it is one of the components you restore. Selecting all partitions and this component is equivalent to restoring the entire disk as it was.

What is strange in your case is that it looks like the restore didn't restore the entire disk, but part(s) of it.

Can you describe the steps you take and choices you make when you restore?

You are doing the restore from the recovery CD, right?

Pat,

it seems to run now.
MAde a failure to recover with an older ATI-Version.
With ATI-Version 11 it works.

Unfortunately I have now another challenge:
When I log into my Useraccount the following message comes up:
"explorer.exe found a problem and has to be finished" (translation from German)

Any idea?

Best

Michael

YES !!

Problems solved.
I changed the explorer.exe.

Thanks for the support.

Best wishes
