ASTI 2009 install problem.
I have been unable to install ATI 2009.9796 build.
I am very disappointed by the tech support.
I started out using the chat line. Several times as nothing they suggested worked.
Finally the last person I spoke to advised my problem would be kicked up to 2 tier support.
I received one email which asked me for more information. I had spent an inordinate amount of time writing my information and sending 2 msi-logs + a system file. Finally today I got a response which advised me to do something I had done at least 30 time. Of course I knew it would not work and it didn't.
I had also sent information to Wilder's forum with no help back from them at all.
I can't believe that this problem has never surfaced before and that no one at Acronis can help me.

Werner Stern

I'm not trying to multi post it's just I'm not getting anyone who is reading my messages. I lay out what I have done and everyone comes back telling me to do the same thing again.
You have suggested I clear out my temp folder. I run ccleaner after each attempt as will as cleanup and also windows cleanup. I also run RegCure to clean out any remaining registry lines etc.
Then I try agasin with still no joy.
For the record I have nothing else running except windows when I attempt to install.
Any ideas appreciated.
The 2nd tier guy has nothinbg to offer except to run cleanup and windows cleanup. After I laid it out that I try this and end this way.

Werner

Does CC cleaner touch the 'hidden' temp folder, this is not the folder under Windows\Temp.
I think you will be better off checking this folder manually. You will need to have enabled hidden files and folders and system files to gain access to this folder if using Windows Explorer.
Some files will be locked as this is where Windows stores files it, or programs use as a scratchpad. Windows cleanup of temp files is abysmal and this folder will often get many files that are not required anymore.
The locked files will only be removable in Windows Safe mode.
So does the installer start and then roll back or not start at all?

Hello all,
Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]
werner,
I suggest you the following:
1) Please temporally disable AntiVirus software including Firewalls.
2) Manually delete the content of the Temp folder.
3) The issue can be related to registrations belonging to your Windows ScrRun.dll being missing from your machine - and the problem may be specific to your machine configuration.
Click Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll -> Enter.
Then please try running the install again.
Thank you.

Hi,
Did all you suggested. Still no go. Stop at same point and then rollback.
I mentioned earlier that V8 installs with no problem but any upgrade will not either over v8 or after v8 is uninstalled.

Hmmmm .... I wonder if it has anything to do with the "flaky memory" thing. True Image is very very picky when it comes to memory. Perhaps the specs of your system might help to reveal what is going on - motherboard chipset, video card type etc.

This is for DwnNDrty. I have sent my msi log and service file to 2nd tier tech with no response except to use clean up and windows cleanup. They do their job but it has no effect on thre attempt at installation.
I've tried almost every method to install v12 with no success.
Tried it in safe cleaned the registry as well.
The problem seems to be in the installer it can't write to the registry.
I am able to install v8 and run it with no problem. But now I get the same crash with v9 & v11. Although v11 was runnin on my machine before I tried to install v12.
I've been removing programs I don't use anymore. I've cleaned the registry (I have backups).
As for flaky memory. This only began with the installation attempt of v12. There are no hardware changes.
There has to be an answer something we are missing.
All comments and suggestions will be tried.
Thanks and Regards,
Werner

Werner,
Have you tried installing build 9,709? If not, maybe support can give you a link to download it. While not the latest build, it did seem to have less problems installing. If it installs, perhaps build 9,796 will or maybe it would provide support with some new information for troubleshooting the problem.

Perhaps if I restate the message I am given when the install stalls and then rolls back someone will have an idea how to solve this problem.
"Could not write value TRUEIMAGEMONITOR.EXE to key \software\Microsoft\windows\current version\run. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel"
I have been able to change keys or add keys so I know I have the permissions. I have seen the key involved and I have been able to install any number of other programs without the problem ATI now gives me.
Any thoughts or ideas and especially suggestions are sought and welcomed. I have run logs and they clearly show thge problem but I am not experienced enough to interpret the log and find a corrective solution.
Thamks for looking at this and thinking about a possible solution based on your experience.

This is the first mention of a registry key failure, I think.
Although other programs have installed OK, have you tried right clicking on that key in registry and choose permissions and double check who is listed under the security panel.
The other possibility is if you have Windows Defender running, this and or your or Windows Firewall might be preventing TI from accessing this registry key.
Do you have any registry or system security software running?

Hi,
Let me take these one at a time.
I've checked ythe permissions and they are all set to allow changes full control. I'm not sure what you refer to by Security Panel. Where do I find that key?
I'm not running Windows Defender at all. I run Vipre and for my firewal I run Comodo and both are closed when I'm installing ATI 2009 I have nothing running at all that shows in my lower right hand of the screen.
That includes no registry or security programs.

Ok,
I don't know what happened. After responding to the previous message I did the following things. I again checked the registry. I made no changes.
I checked permissions and found that all listed were full permissions so I made no changes there either.
I then again ran Acronis clean up but did not reboot. I again closed my firewall and AV programs
and my email client as well.
Then I ran the install just one more time expecting to get the same message. For the first time in the messages place I got a different message. Asking me to update a windows program that runs all the time with regard to my icons. As I was in the middle of the install I simply closed the message and Acronis continued to install normally.
I've taken up a lot of advisor's time and I can't thank you all enough for the support and help I have been given.
I'm sending this explanation because iformation is important and now I'll quietly disappear in the knowledge that Acronis is still the best safety backup program out there.
Again many thanks and Regards,
Werner Stern

That's strange, TI often complains about Web browsers and email clients and occasionally file managers, but as you've just found out it normally notifies you of these.
Well at least you're on the way now.

Yes it is very strange. I've learned a lot from this experience.
A couple of side effect with this experience have been both positive and negative. The positive has been that I understand my system much better than before. The negative has been that my task Manager has disappeared. But that's a minor problem. I suppose that the file has been corrupted and I know how to get it back from my original installatuion disk.
I ran my first backup and it was successful and faster than v11.
I also made my disks so that I can restore when necessary.
Have a great day.

Werner
