ATIH 2011 - impossible to restore a 60GB image on a 120GB SSD
Good evening,
I have a problem using ATIH 2011 on my Desktop computer.
1) I back-up a 60GB image from an old internal HDD using an ATIH 2011 live-CD.
2) I create and active a primary 120GB NTFS partition on a 120GB SSD.
3) I reboot on ATIH 2011 in order to restore the 60GB image on the 120GB SSD partition.
4) ATIH does not allow me to do it : the SSD partition appears but is grey colored (= it is not possible to restore the image on it).
Test 1 : I tried to restore the 60GB image on a 120GB NTFS (external HDD) partition and it worked. I also checked the image and it is not fragmented.
Test 2 : I tried to restore some smaller images on the SSD. I could restore a 45GB image but I could not restore a 55GB one.
--> It seems that the problem is linked to the image size. Strange.
Please, if you discover the root cause, I would be really grateful !

Blank,
Just to be clear, when you talk about the size of the image (60GB) are you talking about the size of the backup file, of the size of the data being backed up?

Thank you, forum stars and heroes !
@ PAT : When I talk about the size of the image, I am talking about the size of the ".tib" file that I try to recover to my SSD using ATIH. My old disk contains one partition of 160GB and 100GB are free. So, a back-up of my 160GB partition is a 60GB ".tib" file.
@ GroverH : In fact, my SSD is not recognized directly by ATIH without any partition. First I have to use Partition Suite and format it to NTFS, then it is recognized by ATIH.
The SSD Model is a (Samsung) Lenovo PN 45N8076 128GB.

Blank,
If your Lenova computer was a laptop, it would only boot if you did the restore with the SSD mounted inside the computer in the boot position but as yours is a desktop, I do not know. You could try attaching the SSD to the same connector as the orignal MB connector and attach the old disk as a usb or in another bay. Use the TI bootable media.
If the SSD is not seen during the restore, try using the TI Add New disk option and see if seen from there.

@GroverH : in my opinion, the root cause is somewhere else.
Summary :
- I tried to restore the 60GB .tib on an external disk (120GB NTFS partition). It worked.
- I tried to restore the 60GB .tib on a 128GB SSD (120GB NTFS partition). I could not do it : the SSD partition appears in grey and is not clickable. There is no error message or something else to tell me more about.
- I tried to restore a 45GB .tib on a 128GB SSD (120GB NTFS partition). It worked.
I do not understand why ATIH allows a 45GB .tib to be recovered on the SSD, and not a 60GB one.
Sorry for my poor English ! Is my description clear enough ?
