ATIH 2012 partition backup works great in Windows 7 64 but fails from Boot CD.
Hi there, purchased the software today (Build 7119) and can happily create partition backups in Windows 7 x64 when run from the GUI to a WD elements USB 3 TB external drive. If I build a recovery CD and boot ATIH and try to do the same thing the process starts and after approx. 5 minutes, the source drive stops transferring data (The HDD light stops blinking). Sometimes the progress graph gets to about 3% and other times it does not move. When I boot back into Windows, I notice the image on my backup drive is 0 bytes and often a chkdsk / f finds orphaned files.
I suspect this is a driver issue but was wondering if there's anywhere I can check logs?
Any help would be appreciated. As stated, the windows version works fine, no errors at all, it's the bootable media version of partition backup that is failing. I assume the bootable version is Linux based?
Thanks in advance,
Tony.

Many thanks for your response, have just generated a system report. Does this get sent over the network automatically as I was not prompted to save it anywhere. If it does, should I have assigned it to a support ticket or something similar?
It's late here and about to crash for the night, will check responses tomorrow. Again thanks for your help.

Oops, ignore that last post, the report just saved to a zip file. Should this be attached here? - Tony.

Tony,
Using the recovery CD, can you recover a couple of files from the backups you are doing in Windows?

Hi Pat, yes I can, I just finished recovering a "windows" made partition backup using the Boot CD. It seems the problem only occurs when making the backup in the first place from the boot CD.

There is a good chance the issue is the size of the disk which is 3TB. How is this disk configured?
Is the TI Boot CD the standard or is it Plus Pack?

The disk (3TB) is configured as a single partition NTFS formatted. The boot CD is not the plus pack I believe.
I might try creating a smaller partition on the 3TB drive and see how it goes backing up to a partition size around 1 TB.
Thanks for the replies so far.

If you want to try it, create two equal 1.5TB partitions and make the type Basic MBR

Ok I'll just wait for this backup to complete and then I'll repartition the disk and see how it goes.

In the long run, that is probably the best idea but do look at the Acrnis Tools & utilities menu and check out the extended capacity link there. It may be of interest. I have not used it and not familiar with its use.
