Username/Password issue with NAS device

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I'm using the latest release of ATIH 2011 on Windows 7 - 64bit.

This software was runing on my old PC without any problem.
When I run a backup from my NAS to a local HDD, I had to enter the username/password defined on my QNAP NAS.

Since I installed a new Windows 7 - 64bit on my new PC this however is not working anymore.

1) When I installed ATIH 2011 the first time, I need to use my Windows 7 username and password when I tried to choose a network folder located on my NAS. Using the NAS user/password didn't work anymore. This sounds strange to me, as this user is not defined on the NAS - very unlogical.
However, when I tried to backup a folder from NAS to local HDD, the task stops by error - either I got path not found or wrong user/password.
It is obvious to me that the NAS does not allow ATIH 2011 to access the files, as the authorization was not done propery using the windows 7 username instead of NAS user.

2) After some testings I end up with an empty Backup Source folder. No harddrive was shown at all anymore - neither the local nor the network drives.
I therefore deinstalled the application - used the cleanup tool and reinstalled the tool again.
Now, the backup sources are shown again, but I can not access any folder on the NAS device anymore.
Both windows user and NAS user are not working anymore.

Summary:
- on old PC I had to use the NAS user to access the NAS.
- on new PC I had to use the windows user to access the NAS, but backup was not working.
- on new PC no user is working anymore since I re-installed the tool, necessary as no backup sources were listed anymore.

This tool seems to me very unreliable and buggy, as I read a lot of problems matching the above issues.
However I never see a satisfying answer from Acronis support.

I tried to open a ticket with Acronis today, however my support already end in Januar 2012 - a shame.

I hope Acronis can provide support here, otherwise I will never buy any product anymore.
I use Acronis since Version 7.0 - several year ago. I always have had issue with this backup tool, but at least I could run basic backups.
But the current problem make it impossible to perform a simple backup - the main feature of this application.

I just deinstalled ATIH 2011 again using the Cleanup tool and installed ATIH 2012 Trial version instead.

With this version everything is working as expected.
When I choose a folder on my NAS device I used the NAS user/password to get access granted.
Also running a backup is working now....

I discovered a difference in the path name displayed in the Authentication dialog box.
In 2011 with Path was "\\NAS-name" only. With 2012, the path name is "\\NAS-name\Folder"

Maybe this is the issue in 2011?!

Hello Anton,
many thanks for your swift support.
Unfortunately the provided information doesn't help.

1) The screen shots are not related to ATIH 2011, but 2010 - I do not have the button "Connection settings", or similar as I use a german version
2) I DO get the authentication dialog prompt as soon as I select a folder on my NAS as mentioned.
However, the username password is not working! Thanks to check my initial post again.

As mentioned in the 2nd Post, the path shown in the authentication dialog box is different between 2011 and 2012 trial version.
In 2011 with Path was "\\NAS-name" only. With 2012, the path name is "\\NAS-name\Folder"
Maybe this is causing the NAS to reject the username in 2011 when I try to access the folder "\\NAS-name\Folder", but "\\NAS-name" is only shown in the dialog.

Thanks for your support.

Hello Anton,

any idea how to solve my issues?
I'm still not able to backup my data stored on the NAS with ATIH 2011, whereas 2012 trial is working!

Many thanks for your support!

Hi Stefan,
I had nearly the same problem with my Linux samba server.
I wasn't able to connect to my home drive with ATIH 2011.
My problem was solved after I inserted in the global section of the smb.conf this:

lanman auth = Yes

After switching this from "no" to "Yes" I was able to connect and to store the user login data with ATIH 2011 under Windows 7 x64.
And connecting is working now.

There are two other options in the smb.conf global section you can tryout.

client lanman auth = Yes
client plaintext auth = Yes

I'm not familiar with qnap nas devices so you have to find a way to edit smb.conf .

Another try we foung out two settings in smb.conf have to be made in the global section.
1. lanman auth = Yes
2. security = USER

this is working for me with ATI 2011 and another guy here with ATI 2012 who had the same login probs...
