recovered from first Acronis crash now BSOD with cleanup tool to remove version 12
am ready to rip out my hair. Acronis massacred me last week when trying to clone my harddrive and forced me to use the recovery console to get my system back up and running. I tried to re-install version 12 but got a rollback message and thought I would do a complete un-install. I then ran the clean-up tool. OMG. On reboot am in a constant cycle of re-boot getting a BSOD right after the windows logo which is too fast to read. How can I read this BSOD? tried the windows recovery console and it starts to load then tells me my ULTRA.SY_ is corrupt and refuses to go any further telling me to hit a key to re-start!!! Only access to the system now is thru a Ultimate boot cd - thank God for this. Without reading the BSOD I cannot proceed although something tells me I am not the first to experience this. Please help - am professional photog on deadline and I will lose contract. When I type fixmbr I get the dreaded warning message. But I did and I am still not any further.

I restored the system manually by deleting the config files and replacing them with ones which were present before I used the cleanup tool. (this got me out of my mess last week when Acronis crashed while cloning my hard drive and corrupted my config files) after resotoring the files with fingers crossed I re-booted and no, I still have the BSOD right after the windows logo but it is so fast all I see is a blue color - I cant make out the BSOD error code. boot problem? I tried fixmbr but it did nothing to help. or, did I need to do something besides fixmbr to fix the boot sector? I really need to see that blue screen error message though. Surely someone has had the same problem with the clean up tool!

oh my. just read the knowledge base article that one is NOT supposed to restart the system when prompted by the clean up tool... one has to ask then why is it designed to prompt when one should NOT execute the prompt????? I of course did not edit the registry as it suggests and am sure am not the only one who thought clean-up tool would do just that.

Most likely you have a corrupted registry.
Do you have a backup you can restore?

not really unless there is one I can retrieve from within the system. I can access a lot with the Ultimate Boot CD. I replaced the registry hive and am just going into the registry now to see if those rogue files are there according to the knowledge base. I had a complete disk image on my main system on a different disk than the operating disk. I was updating it when all of this happened as I just purchased my new system and was about to start loading programs.... Acronis wiped my second disk image completely in the first crash. what a mess. seems to be a boot issue - cant get past the windows logo then the BSOD which I cannot read.

I just found this post in the Acronis forum when checking to see who else suffered my fate - http://forum.acronis.com/forum/26439 - last resort cleanup - I do have access to the registry but am unclear exactly how I should proceed. i sent the chap a PM to see if he can guide me. I have to leave now for 4 days to photograph Olympic trials and I have quite the mess to come home to as I have to leave tomorrow morning (I was supposed to be there now.....)

am wondering as I can access all restore points from with the Ultimate CD if I shouldnt just choose one before I even uninstalled version 2012>

Yes, if you have a restore point before the installation, that is the easiest thing to do.
"offline registry editing" is possible, google it...

I did try one restore before I had to leave - it didnt work. I can only access the restore through Ultimate Boot CD - every other means does not work. I tried the point where I had uninstailled the software but had not run the removal tool. It didnt work. I will now try to go further back, before I tried to uninstall the software I guess. It will have to wait until I get home. Dont know if this will work.

Since 20.3.2012 Acronis True Image Home 2012 (Dutch) plus package
Perfect clone disk image with some programs and no longer had to be reinstalled and registration of various programs were gone.
Try & Decide worked first, and then BSOD's
Restore from out Windows itself works.
Backup set back with CD restore disk does not work.
Backup c: \ HD restore c: \ HD 1 TB
Restore HD with mbr and active
RECOVERY MENU CD
Final stage:
settings for partition c:
location previously
new location for partition
selection means nothing is selected, so no next.
2x email sent no reply so far.
30 days support is idiotic enough.
Acronis True Image Home 2012 (Dutch) plus package from your computer, then worked with windows 7 backup anymore.
Reinstalled and then to 2 registry installed.
After much search 2 reg files found, this worked.

Also Secunia and Driver Genius Professional Edition.
So it's not my system.
Backup of Windows works perfectly.
I regret this purchase because no one wants to help and because it does not work.
