[DUPLICATE] Acronis Cleanup tools not at all what you would expect
I have just taken some time to go through what happens when you want to do a clean installation on a system that has had previous Acronis products installed and I was surprised at what I found.
The products I had installed were: DD11, ADD11, ATIH2012
I ran the ATIH2012 cleanup tool
1). The tool deletes ALL acronis products from the system it does not make it clear that it will be doing this. Yes it lists all the products installed but it does not check to see which one is to be cleaned up.
2). After running the tool it leaves the following service entries in the managent console:
Acronis Disk Management Service
Acronis OS Selector Service
Acronis Remote Agent Service
3). It also leaves DD11 and ADD11 icons on the desktop
4). The same is true after running the Acronis 2013 Cleanup tool.
5). It does not remove the Acronis Agent User Account
6). It does not remove the Acronis Remote Users Group
7). there are a whole load of registry entries that are not deleted "Missing Shared DLL and ActiveX/COM Also firewall rules are not removed. 709 of them
8). it does not remove the Remote Agent profiles
Having restored the system to what it was before I then used the product uninstaller to remove each product:
1). Uninstalling ADD11 does not remove the Acronis Agent User account
2). C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\OnlineBackupScripts, C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome are not removed
3). C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome which contains two files fox.dll & help.chw are not removed
4). The uninstallers do not remove many registry entries
5). The following keys also still exist after using the uninstallers:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{C539A15B-3AF9-4c92-B771-50CB78F5C751} remains Acronis Secure Zone
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis remains but seems to have no content
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis remains with all the product sub keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis remains
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis

Some of the above also appear in HKEY_USERS
6). C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ still appears in the path statement
7). Running the cleanup tool does clear up some of the mess.
Following this experience I can say that the only way to end up with the cleanest system possible is:
1). Uninstall (if possible) all Acronis products using their native uninstallers this will ensure that all the services etc. are deleted
2). When all the products are removed run the latest Acronis clean up tool. This will remove a lot of dead wood from the registry and most of the folder used by Acronis programs but not perhaps all of them.
All I can say after this experience is that the cleanup tool is far from a cleanup tool it does not do a good job at all!
I hope the above is useful to those wanting to start with the cleanest system possible. If you have used the cleanup tool and still have issues install the products you had to start with, then uninstall them, then use the cleanup tool and hopefully any issues will be gone.

I'm using True Image since more than years and at least 6 versions.
Once it is installed and working, it is a fine tool, but installing the software is often not very easy.
Due to problems with installung ATIH 2011 (2 versions) and ATIH 2012 (3 versions) and now ATIH 2013 I had to use the "cleanup" tool several times.
Upgrading from one version to the next and even to a newer build within a version rarely worked.
Most often the upgrade did not install at all or I had several prolems thereafter.
Therefore since version 2012 I always deinstall the "old" version and run a new install. But even then the installation process ist often unsuccessfull and then I have to use the cleanup tool.
>> It NEVER did the job as I expected, namely removing ALL entries in the registry and ALL files and folders in several locations distributed at volume C:\
Today, when I tried to install ATIH 2013 (Testversion) and the installation aborted three times, I contacted the "live chat" and they told me, after the "normal" de-install of ATIH2012 with windows I should try to run the cleanup tool TWICE and a "chkdsk /f" thereafter.
It sounded a bit silly to me, but I tried it and the next installation thereafter worked!!
I think, nobody really knows what the cleanup tool is doing !?!

I agree with you that a product's uninstaller should remove everything: executables; non-shared dlls; directories; shortcuts; Start Menu entries and pinned launchers; Task Scheduler entries; services and startup items; all registry entries; etc. Sadly, very few applications do that.
On a positive note, one of our MVPs has found that ATIH 2013 is better behaved in this regard than previous versions, that it uninstalls more cleanly.
