0x0000007E BSOD after restore

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone!

I've looked at several 0x0000007E posts in this forum (and everywhere else) but not been so lucky with my issue. Got this BSOD after a universal restore from my old HP nx8220 to HP 6710. I am able to boot the computer in safe mode with networking. I've tried reinstalling all drivers using 6710's CD. I can confirm both of them are Intel-based systems. I tried Windows recovery console options. Also had a go disabling all the startup services and applications, and also the drivers from the device manager. Tried registry cleaners. All to no avail.

I'm at wits end now and dunno what else I need to check. Rebuilding my PC is the last (and unwanted) of my options.

The exact BSOD error message is:
0x0000007E (0xC0000005 0xF52F8466 0xF78AE20C 0xF78ADF08)

Thanks,
Trev

If you are running XP, this is probably related to the HP Client Management device driver (clntmgmt.sys) that was running on your old system. This would need to be disabled or removed on the new system. Do not delete the file, edit the registry to find the references to it and disable the driver from starting up.

Might it not be possible to just unregister the driver using regsvr32, or delete it with the devcon command? (rather than poking around in the Registry)

There are several ways of disabling the driver/service (if that is the cause of this problem), but locating and identifying the actual registry entries for the exact name of the driver/service may allow one the be able to more easily use the commands you have mentioned to disable or remove the driver/service.
