Specific question regarding RECOVERY MANAGER

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have Acronis True Image 2011 + Pack

I have done a proper backup of my system disk (SDD) after a proper installation of windows and all the applications I use (backup was done a few months ago).

System :
- W7 64 bits
- one SDD drive (system)
- 4 HDD

Recently, my computer has had some problems (freeze, blue screen), and I would like to restore the backup I have made

BUT THERE IS A QUESTION : I have installed a new hard drive, dedicated to video editing and I was wondering what would happen when I restore my system drive, given that the hard drive did not exist at that time..... will windows recognise it ?
There are loads of personal videos transfered from my camcorder, and I do not want to risk losing them....

Maybe my question makes no sense, because there should not be any problem with the drive, but I'd rather ask before performing a restore.

Thanks for your help

David

Normally you would have no problems with the restore if you are careful about selecting the correct destination for the restore.
To be safe, I would temporarily disconnect any drives that you are concerned about before doing the restore.
You can never be too careful when it comes to data protection.

I have successfully restored Windows 7 and Windows 8 System Reserved and OS partitions to a single drive with many partitions and have not had any problems with data loss in the additional partitions or extra drives in my system. (I have them all backed up, if not I would have disconnected them first to be safe.)

Hi

here's some feedback, since I've decided to run a RESTORE without disconnecting any hard drive.
I only backed-up the data from the drive that had been installed AFTER doing an ACRONIS BACKUP (just in case).

The restore was completed perfectly with no side effect.
The hard drive installed after the acronis Backup was recognised like all the other hard drives : nothing happened, it was just in the windows explorer, just like if nothing had changed (so that's cool !). And the files are all fine !

BUT : important to mention because I did not perform a backup and lost the following data :
- itunes backup of an apple hardware (iphone, ipad) was lost after the RESTORE (because the data is on the same system disk and I did not think about it)
- for McAfee users of the VAULT, same thing --> Data stored in the vault was lost after restore

So the Acronis restore process (it was the first time I had to perform a restore) went fine as far as i'm concerned

That's a good argument for why the simplest, safest backup is a full disk mode backup. That way, everything is included. It takes longer and uses more disk space, but you know you have everything and it's a simpler restoration.
