New Install - Hangs When I Try To tart a Back Up

Thread needs solution

As the title says. Just bought, downloaded and installed TI 2013. I had TI 2010 installed before. I uninstalled that through Control Panel first.
I identify the folder to back up, the destination, and click "Back Up Now". I get the little box with the spinning spiral and the message please wait, and that is all. It just sits there.

Any ideas?

Robert,

Not all of 2010 may have uninstalled correctly. First try a repair install of 2013, just run the installer again and select Repair, I suggest rebooting after it has finished.

OK, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now, I am getting tasks done, however ....

When ever I try to do something like save a new task or delete an old back up, I get the spinning spiral for a very long time, minutes. It really should take less than a second to save a task for example.

Actually, i am going to revise this. It is still hanging, not just taking a long time. Starting to look like I once again wasted my money. I set a task to back up my .pst file on a daily schedule. When I clicked Run Later, I got the revolving spiral for about 5 minutes, but it appeared to have worked. The next task I tried to save never did save, and I had to end it through task manager. I realized that I had not defined where I wanted my Outlook .pst task to save, so I went into settings, changed the save location and clocked save. You guessed it, spinning spiral forever.

Something else new. Every time I close True Image, the process stays in Task Manager. If I open the program again, I get another True Image process. Not True Image Monitor, just TrueImage.exe. If I close the extra one, it works better. Not great, but a little better.

Seems to be very buggy.

Robert,

What OS are you using?

Before looking at some workarounds, I have a feeling that the install has not gone as planned, so bare with me, download and run the 2013 cleaner, found here, reboot, temporarily disable your firewall and AV software or make absolutely sure you exempt TIH and the installer from being scanned. Install 2013 again, reboot.

There have been problems noted recently if Nortons 360 Secuirty is installed, causing 2013 to either not run or run slow, there are a couple of other reasons for 2013 running slow on a system, but I want to ensure there is no remnants of 2012 lurking on your system.

Do you get this problem if you attempt a disk or partition image?

What happens if you do not open Outlook/LiveMail before making a backup? If you are using Outlook is this connected to an Exchange Server? Outlook often locks its files even after it has been closed and this is know to cause a problem when TI attempts to access the PST file for backup purposes.

As you have only just purchased 2013, you might be still within your 30 day support period in which case I would reccommend you take advantage of it before it runs out.
