Can Acronis 2012 prevent formatting of secondary drive?
I have Win-7 64 bit on Dell Vostro 460 with a 1-TB secondary backup drive that Acronis True Home Edition 2012 writes backups to. I want to replace it with a 3-TB drive.
I purchased a Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB drive to use as the secondary, data-only, backup drive. I can partition it but I can't format it. I get an error:
"The volume Simple Volume is currently in use. To force the format of this volume, click Yes."
If I choose "Yes", my machine crashes with BSOD -- and the only file mentioned on the BSOD is vsflt67.sys
I earlier suspected Acronis -- I disabled my AV (using Microsoft Forefront Client Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) and went into Services.msc and stopped all Acronis services, but I still get the same problem -- can't format and the system crashes if I continue with the format.
I get this from Device Manager > Properties > Volumes > Populate:
Disk 1
Type: Basic
Status: Online
Partition Style: GUID Partition Table (GPT)
Capacity: 2861588 MB
Unallocated space: 1 MB
Reserved space: 128 MB
Volume: (F:)
So I know the drive is partitioned and the system recognizes it. I think I just need to figure out what is "using" it and preventing the format.
Any help / suggestions appreciated.
