Which install type of ABR11 have you used and which version of SBS2011 - Essentials?

Is it the C:\ partition or the sytem partition that is failing?

Are you attempting a complete disk or per partition image?

Are you using VSS or the Acronis substitute?

We have the same problem: ABR11 SBS Edition on a Windows SBS2011 Standard. S
The server is a Dell R510 with 2 Xeon X5650, 24 GB RAM and a PERC700 controller (3 RAID arrays, the first for OS & Exchange, the second for Documents & Users' Roaming Profile and the third for the backup destination).
Every time we start an image backup using any of the VSS option (Hardware, Software, Acronis VSS; Microsoft VSS, etc.) it fails with the same message posted by Mr. Adam Killbey. If we disable VSS it works perfectly (but it is not an option to diasable VSS, we need it for Exchange, SQL and Sharepoint DB integrity).
Sorry for my horrible english.
I Hope anybody can help me.
Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting and thank you for your help. I will do my best to help you with this issue.

It is not clear exactly why it occurs but you can contact our Support team with this report and I am confident that we will be able to resolve it.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Just experienced this same problem with a fresh install of ABR 11 on SBS 2011 server. Spoke with Acronis support and they reconfigured the job to run using the Windows VSS service instead of Acronis VSS. This was done while editing the Acronis back up job settings with "do not use VSS" radio button selected. The job kicked off fine now and is working great.

"do not use VSS" is not "using the Windows VSS service", it means no VSS at all with all consequences like inconsistent databases. http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11/#12865.html . MS VSS is under "Software - System provider"

Hi All,

I have this issue and like others need VSS to run, was there a fix for this in the end, my server is clean install of SBS 2011 although I have installed SQL (Premium add on) on this server also.

Any help appreicated.

Thanks
Tim.

Had the same issue with SBS2011. Rainman13 was right. Use "system VSS (Microsoft) & it will go!

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the reply I should have read the above post a little more carefully!

Cheers
Tim.

I am glad i found this topic as i am having the same problem on the latest version 11.5 and on v11, this is a joke that the only way i can get it to work is to disable VSS. I logged a call with acronis which have been next to useless in terms of reply speed and being helpful.

Apart from disabling VSS are there any other backup options that must be selected as i see that the backup schedule does still randomly fail.

There are a number of VSS providers available for ABR11.5, which one did you choose and have you tried using one of the other ones listed?
