Backup Data and move to NEW Laptop

Thread needs solution

Iam using the trial version of 2013 Backup and Recovery. I am installing a new Hard drive and changing the OS to Windows 7 Pro. I want to Backup my Laptop files and REINSTALL them on my NEW HD. Can I Reinstall 2013 Backup & Recovery on my NEW HD and reinstall my data? I have never used backup software before, I just copied the directories and files to my external drive and reinstalled them as needed. I want to make sure I can do the same before buying this product.

thanks for your help.

Copying your content folders (typically those under C:\users\[yourusername]) is a simple, reliable and fast way to do what you want to do. You don't strictly need Acronis True Image (ATI) to do that. In fact, I would recommend the copy solution.

ATI is really good a doing disk images and restoring them: this type of backup (called disk and partition backup in ATI) allows you to restore your system (to a new disk if your system disk breaks down, for example) without having to reinstall the OS, the apps, the updates, your settings, etc.
Of course, you could use the same kind of backup to restore your content to your new disk. But you won't be able to restore your apps, unless you restore the same OS that was backed up with them. IN addition, restore a backup of computer A to computer B is doable but a bit more involved and a bit less reliable.
