Installing True Image after upgrading computer to Windows 8

Thread needs solution

Probably an easy question but if any could help it would be much appreciated.

I have just clean installed Windows 8. The versions of Acronis I have is True Image 2012 with True Image 2013 upgrade license. How do I get this installed on Windows 8 as True Image 2012 is not compatible and I require 2012 installed before upgrading to 2013?

Many Thanks
Matt

Install the 2013 upgrade, it will ask for your 2012 serial number and your 2013 one, enter these and you are good to go.

If you've mislaid your 2012 serial number it is available from your Acronis account, assuming you registered it.

I am having problems doing this. I have entered my new 2013 serial number. It asks for my 2012 number. I enter that and then it can't activate. I try activating it on a different machine and I get an error when activating that I am trying to do it on a second machine. I have a 3 machine license. What do I need to do? What might be the problem here?

Make sure you're using cut-paste operation with those Keys. I was unable to 'Enter' them by hand.

I did use copy and paste. Is there any chance that the nombers I get for the activation have the computer name stored in them. The computer I have when I created a Win 8 image might not have the same name aas when I activated it with a previous image. I sure wish it was easier to get answers from Acronis. I guess we only had 2 months of free support and we just having had a need to use it much since we got it and out 2 months has run out.

Bret,

Your message is not clear on how many systems the 3 user license product serial number has been installed on.
If the product has been activated 3 times on three systems, then you have reached the maximum number of activations for your serial number. You can de-activate one of the installations (even if previously activated on the same machine as the current install) by following the prompts to do so from within Acronis.

Can you post screenshots of the problems you are having?

There is a procedure for "moving" an activation to a "new" machine.

You can "move" the activation from, and to, the same machine, if the activation was previously performed on it.

Bret,

Are you asking about the serial number or the activation code?

If you have had this installed previously and activated, you will get a error message 'too many activations' if you are trying to activate the wrong PC.

The serial number itself does not have any knowledge of your PC name, activation does.

This is the error message I get when I try to activate using a seperate machine.
"You are trying to activate the product on the 2nd computer, but this serial number can be used only with 1 computer."

We have a 3 computer license and I have only installed it on the machine I am working on. I installed it with a previous Windows 8 install but I am not sure I activated it with that image because I wasn't registering the Windows 8 at the time because it was a test and I didn't think that would be a version of Windows 8 I wanted to keep.

As I said I only installed it on this machine, but when I installed it with the previous image of Windows 8 the computer name might have been different. That is why I wondered if the computer name was stored in the installation code.

I can't get the activation code. When I enter the installation code on a seperate machine to activate it I get the following error:

"You are trying to activate the product on the 2nd computer, but this serial number can be used only with 1 computer."

I have only installed Acronis 2013 on this machine, but it was on a previous Windows 8 install that we did for a test and they didn't want us to activate Windows 8 because we didn't have our enterprise version yet. Does the installation code store the computer name? My previous install may have had a different computer name. If it does store that I would think that is not the best way to do a machine license, because that name could change for different OS's on the same machine.

Bret,

If you have access to the Acronis online account that has the serial number you are using registered to it, you can log in and check to see if the serial number is listed as a Family Pack or Single User License. It may be possible that 3 individual licenses were purchased and there may be additional registered serial numbers for 2013 in the account.

Please clarify -- is at least one copy of the 2013 program using the serial number you are having issues with, activated and running one a system?

It is possible to "move" an activation from a system that is no longer used, or to a fresh install on the same system.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your posts and your help!

Bret, could you please contact me via a private message so that I can assist you with this issue. Please provide me with the serial number so that I can take a closer look at this activation problem.

If you need immediate assistance please register the serial number and contact our Support team via chat as it is the quickest way to address this issue.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi a slight variation on the 1st post above. I have win 7 with ATIH11 installed. I am about to upgrade (as opposed to clean install) to win 8. I have purchased the upgrade to TI2013. Should I
a) Remove atih11 from win 7 and upgrade to win 8, then re-install ti2013.
b) upgrade to win 8 without removing atih11 and then install the upgrade package for ti2013.
Sorry if this is a bit basic, but that's where I am!

Pete,

The correct answer to your multiple choice question is "A" -- Yes, remove 2011 before the upgrade to Windows 8, and install 2013 after the upgrade to Windows 8.

The 2013 installation, if you purchased an upgrade serial number, will require that you input both your 2013 serial number and your 2011 serial as well. The 2013 install will be the same as a full version install, only that you need to input both serial numbers.

If you ever remove 2013, and re-install again, you will still need both serial numbers to do so.

Be sure to create new full disk backup of your Windows 7 system before starting, just in case the upgrade doesn't go well on your system. You could always restore Windows 7 and start over if needed.
