Can I hot plug the USB3 drive, containing the recovery image, after the ATIH 2012 recovery program is loaded?

Thread needs solution

I am running ATIH 2012 last level. My recovery images (tib files) are located on a USB 3 drive. Does the USB3 drive have to be connected to the system before I boot the recovery CD or can I boot the system with the recovery CD, and when the Acronis recovery program is loaded then plug in the USB 3 Drive?

Thanks.

With some systems, you will need to have it plugged in before powering the system up.

On all of my systems, I always wait until booted into the Rescue Media to plug in any external drives. Doing this causes the Linux Rescue Media environment to assign drive letters more closely to Windows. I usually wait about 30 secs. to 1 min. before using any of the Rescue Media options to allow time for the device to be recognized.

The Linux based Rescue Media does poll for newly added USB connected devices, but this does not always work. In addition, if your USB 3.0 ports are not supported by the Linux based Rescue Media, the attached device will not work, whether you attach it before or after booting to the Rescue Media. In this case, you would need to try and connect to a USB 2.0 port that is working on (and supported by) the Rescue Media.

I waited until booted into the Rescue Media and then plugged in the USB 3 drive. Waited another minute for USB 3 drive to be recognized and set up the resotore. Everything went fine. I have the Acronis 2013 Plus Plack and had given some thought into using WinPE for recovery. This is a much easier way when it works.

Thanks for your help.
