TI9, and 11, FREEZES during backup!

Thread needs solution

Hello ALL:

I can not imagine what can be wrong. I have tried this with ver 9 and 11. I run XP and have an issue after all this time with a full backup freezing after a while. I have to power down to make the system come up.

System disk is clean and defraged. Output drive is OK as well, in fact I have tried 2 drives with plenty of room. All has been fine for YEARS and the last backup was 2 weeks ago. Now a backup starts and when I look at it in an hour or so the Windows system is locked up.

OK, I tried the same with the TI9 and 11 boot cd I made and the same thing happens. I want to keep using my TrueImage as I trust it, but I must say that a trial version of another package does the backup with no issues.

Can anyone help? This has been fine for years up until a few weeks ago!

Run chkdsk /r on that drive. Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

What are you backing up to? i.e. what is the target drive where backups will be saved, and how is it connected?

Well, I had run chkdsk /R on both the source and destination and all was OK, I even defraged. Remember, all has been fine for years. I am storing it on another drive...a raid setup, and I have always done that. I have an eSATA drive that I back up to every few months and that too failed. As I said, the trial of another program worked fine! I like TI, and have never had any issues before.

Well, I got my first success in TI11 just now. Here is what I did. Perhaps you people can tell me why this mattered! It took so long on each system freeze that I did something that I should not...I changed a few things at once.

Here is what worked...

I changed Priority from High to LOW
I changed Compression from Max to NORMAL
I changed the backup file name from P4-2400-03-14-2013 to TEST

Also, I did not do a verify at the end, but did it as a separate op when the Backup finished.

SO, now does anyone have any idea why this now worked? My usual settings have worked for years!
