True Image 2011 / new lap top

Thread needs solution

My "daily driver" lap top lost the background lighting and I opted for a new one. My previous laptop has True Image 2011 loaded in It to back up everything onto an external hard drive. The new computer will not read the external hard drive, I assume because I don't have the right software in it. When I tried to install the software from the cd, it won't. So, can I update from the internet, or do I need to buy a whole new version? Will I be able to use the updated version on more than 1 pc? Thanks in advance. Scott

What OS is on the new laptop? True Image 2011 is not compatible with Windows 8.

Also be aware that the keyboard lighting is also controlled by software. I have an Asus Laptop with keyboard lighting and sometimes it is necessary for me to the function keys to enable/disable the lighting. On my computer Ctrl4 plus there is also special keys to turn it off and on. If you still have the old computer, try playing around with function keys and you may be pleasantly surprised. Ths is also controlled by a driver which may need updated or reloaded..

The new lap top is Windows 8. I am now finding out that it is not compatible. Bringing on more issues. Looks like the new PC is probably going back and I'm going to try to get a Windows 7 machine instead. Hopefully less issues. If I do this, should I be able to install the Acronis True Image Home 2011 onto the Windows 7 machine? All the data from my other PC is backed up onto an external hard drive I bought at the same time as the Acronis software. Should I expect the data on the hard drive to be ok? Probably going back to an older version of windows cause other stuff I use daily for work doesn't seem to interact well with the windows 8.
