Error Code 0x590001 - Failed to Read Data from the Disk

Thread needs solution

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and I am looking for some help from this community. I have been trying to do a restore from an Acronis backup for 2 days now. I have scoured the Internet and the Acronis forums looking for a solution to this issue but I have come up short (to say the least.)

I was trying to do a recovery from a backup using the latest boot disk that I downloaded from my account and halfway through the recovery, I get the dreaded"

"Failed to Read Data from the Disk"

Failed to read from sector 76,812,370 of hard disk 1. Try to repeat the operation. If the error persists, check the disk using the Check Disk Utility and create a backup of the disk. R/W operation on MD device has failed." (0x590001)

I have an internal Western Digital 1TB drive and a 1 TB external Drive (where the backups are stored). When I boot, the internal drive displays as Disk 2. I did a CHKDSK C: /R last night on the drive where I am trying to recover (C: Drive) and it took bloody forever but found no errors. I assume I need to do this to the external as well. Should I have added the /F syntax as well? (chkdsk c: /r /f)

Could someone explain what the actual error code "0x590001" is?

I would really like to get this resolved as quickly as I could and I really appreciate any assistance.

If you need further details, please feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance,

Dave (Not recovered in Memphis, TN)

0x590001 is simply a read/write error

Check the second drive. that will rule out drive errors.

Then it's a question of drivers. Have you run the bootcd successfully before?

Can you validate the backup you want to restore? Using the bootcd?

btw, Chkdsk /r implies /f -- also, /r will cause chckdsk to run all fine test that don't normally all run.

Thank you Scott for the response. I have run all my recovers from the boot disk in the past. I did try to validate the *.tib file (the saved backup) and I received a Bitmap error message. Please keep in mind I was only validating and not doing a recover at that point.

I am to the point I want to go buy a new hard drive and see if that will work. I have read countless threads here on the forum but I cannot for the life of me find a working solution. I wanted to make sure I tried most of the steps found in other posts BEFORE I added a new question. I hate wasting time, especially when the solution could simply be right in front of me.

So you are suggesting running the chkdsk /r ??

Is this correct?

Thank you so much for your advice,

Dave P.

Run chkdsk /r on that drive.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

I will try that Tuttle and get back in touch.

Thank you in advance,

Looks like I have more issues. I ran the chkdsk F: /R on my external drive and I received the dreaded "not enough room" error.

This is a 3TB drive and I am only using 400GB.....UGH!!!!
