Try & Decide 2009 v9796

Thread needs solution

Hello All,
When running "try & Decide" ( a great tool to have) i have noticed that TI creates a new "folder" in my "C:" drive 83.4 MB (LoaderData) . This folder stays even when you "discard " changes. Anyone have any ideas as to what this "BIN file" is or why it should remain after closing the Try & Decide mode? Regards Fred

I don't actually 'know' the answer to this, I suspect it contains drive index and layout and possibly program links of the temporary programs you might have installed. As you may be aware Acronis changed the way T&D allocates itself space in v2009.

As for it remaining, It think it retains the drive layout data for next time it is used. What actually happens to the folder and file if you de-activate the T&D?

It might be just an oversight - a bit like Windows not actually deleting it's temporary files as it is supposed to, or a precaution to reserve at least some disk space to operate in, though 83MB wouldn't go very far these days.

bodgy,
Hello and thanks for the reply. It wouldn't be so bad except it creates (Try& Decide) Bin(1), Bin (2), etc. every time you start "Try & Decide" don't know how many you would end up with after many start and stops. (each at approx 85MB) If you have 2009 give it a try,you don't have to actually try a program to see this, just start it and "X" out. Regards Fred

Hadn't realised that, temporarily you could disable the T&D service in Services. If it is set to automatic, try changing it to manual, then delete the Bin files and directory.

Reboot, make sure the Bin files aren't recreated. If they aren't run T&D (this should autostart the Service), then stop T&D and see if the service stays as manual and that you don't get extra Bin files appearing.

It is possible that T&D will refuse to start in manual mode, so if you get an error message, don't be concerned, just set it back to Auto, if you wish to continue using it.

bodgy,
I tried deleting this folder , the result was my system would not boot (fatal error) good thing that i made a boot-able recovery disk . I have only one Acronis entry is "services", and it is indeed set to automatic. I did not try to change it to manual. I will try to delete the extra "add on " entries and leave the first one alone. I will post back with my results. Regards Fred

Hello Fred,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

The situation is rather interesting. We have a similar issue in Acronis True Image Home 2010, but the mentioned folder is empty.

I am unable to find any records in our database concerning this issue and Acronis True Image Home 2009. Do you have any news? Could you please share your experience?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

I would like to express my appreciation to Colin for the investigation.

Please let me know if the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question.

Thank you.

In a different post we happened by accident onto a possible way of solving your T&D problem.

Try booting into Windows Safe Mode - and then reboot back into Windows. Whilst the other poster didn't quite have the same problem as you have (their machine perpetualy rebooted into T&D), that solved their problem - might be worth a try.

Oleg,
Hello, As i have since reverted back from my original post to TI-11 (8101) i will have to go from memory. The "Loader Data" file indeed does show "zero bytes empty" but if you click on it i saw several (approx) 84 MB files. After running T&D i then noticed that this folder was updated every time that T&D ran "Loader Data" "BinFile 1,2,3, etc." (even if i did not download anything to try) I then tried to delete the first one but this left my "OS" un-boot-able. Same result trying to delete any one of them. The message was "Fatal Error"or something like that. Sorry , but that is all the information that i can remember. I reverted back because it did not make much sense to keep adding 84MB to my system just running a part of the program (T&D) It was a "deal breaker" for me. I will be happy to answer any of your questions... if you have any more. Regards Fred

Hello Fred,

Thank you for your quick response.

Since currently you are using Acronis True Image 11 Home and the issue can't be investigated in public, I am sending you a Private Message.

Thank you.
