How to open Acronis Backup Explorer?

Thread needs solution

Under "Recovering data from file-level backups", the help file says "You will usually start recovering files and folders from Acronis Backup Explorer", but it doesn't say how to open Acronis Backup Explorer, and I can't find any information about how to do it in the 2013 version.

I really had to search for this too.

Under the settings (gearwheel icon for individual backup scheme) > recover files

Richard

When I click the gearwheel icon, the choices are View Log, Collapse, Back up now, Open location, Edit settings, Validate, Delete, More...; and More lists Create shortcut, Consolidate versions, Clone settings, Move, and Remove from list - nothing about recover files. There is a big green button labeled "Recover", but I'm afraid to click it because I think the last time I tried that it immediately started recovering the whole backup rather than the individual file I wanted.

This link illustrates your Acrnis Backup Explorer and it is task specific.

Right click anywhere inside your backup task and choose "Recover Files".
Note: depending upon which version you are using, the option may be "Explore & Recover", etc.
The right click option leads to another group of other options for recover or deletion.

I see what the problem is. The instructions you give are for a Disk & Partition backup. When I do as you say for that type of backup, it works. The backup I'm working with is a File backup. When I right-click on this backup, I get the same list of choices I described in my reply to Richard Adams. How do I open Backup Explorer for a File backup?

Same way. Once inside the Explorer, in upper left corner, click on the Files and Folder option.

I must be missing something. If I right-click on a Disk and Partition backup, I can select "Recover Files". This opens up a window titled only "True Image 2013 by Acronis", but which is presumably the Acronis Backup Explorer. From there I can select a file from within that Disk and Partition backup that I want to recover. That works fine.

Now, however, if I right-click on a File Backup, I get only the options that I listed in my reply to Richard Adams. This list does *not* include "Recover Files" or anything equivalent to it. How do I select a particular file that I want to recover from a File Backup?

I again note the obvious: There is a green Recover button at the right of the File Backup (just as there is for a Disk and Partition backup). However it is titled "Recover", not "Recover...", implying that there are no further choices once the button is clicked; and indeed that was my experience when I tried it before - Acronis immediately started recovering everything, not just the single file I wanted.

coffent,

Recover Files is only available for disk/partition backups. The Recover button on file backup tasks should open Backup Explorer where you can choose what and where to restore.

You must be confusing the "Recover" button function (on a file/folder task) on the task list, with a "Recover" button in the program elsewhere that actually starts the recovery process.

Thanks. I took courage and clicked the Recover button and indeed it did (just) open what I think is Backup Explorer, rather than starting a full recovery. I probably was confusing this with whatever I did before (perhaps even with an older version of Acronis). Still, given the possibly catastrophic consequences of recovering and overwriting files one doesn't want to recover, it would be nice if Acronis followed the industry standard and labeled the button "Recover...", assuring users that they would be able to make choices before recovery commenced.

I cant help agreeing with Coffent. I made the same assumptions when looking for the illusive timeline and backup explorer and went round in circles knowing it was there somewhere. And I agonised over pressing the restore button in case that triggered a potential nightmare of catching up from a previous lifetime! :-) From this thread I have learnt that the backup explorer is backup job specific. It would have been useful to have tags along the top with all the different backup names. I would have liked the "recover files" option to be included in, well, my file backup. Whether file or disk backup I would like to browse them all from within Acronis just to understand all is well. It is not very user friendly and the window labels could be more explicit.

I have made many experimental backups and deleted some in windows (before reading in help that I shouldn't have) And I have come across a screen which listed all the backups I ever did including deleted jobs individual tib files - but I have not been able to find that screen again. When an option invites me to browse, the programme sometimes stops working so my guess is I will have to reinstall.

It's still a great programme
