BSOD INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE after creating backup with Home2011

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I'm working in the business of Industrial Automation and we have delivered a Toshiba Satellite Pro L670 to one of our customers about two years ago. They approached me with the next problem last week:

The laptop has been working fine for the last two years, running Windows XP. Last week, the maintenance engineer decided to make a backup of the hard-drive, because he acknowledged the importance of the laptop. So he took their Acronis True Image Home 2011 CD, booted the laptop with it and created a full drive backup to an external USB-drive. All seemed OK.

But then he restarted the PC: a few seconds after the Windows XP logo appears, a BSOD flashed by and the laptop rebooted by itself. Now it's stuck in a loop. When starting in Safe mode, the same occurs.

We tried restoring the backup he made on the USB-drive. That goes fine, but does not solve anything...
In an attempt to help our customer, I would like to ask your help: can this be fixed?

Simply creating a backup using the bootable Rescue Media would not cause what you describe. Ask what else he did.
