lost backup files

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Over the last year, I've been doing an incremental backup and I was up to about 18 backup files on my external hard drive. Now, I've had some issues and probably did something I wasn't supposed to do, I am down to about 10 files (dating back to December 2012 and no longer early May 2013).

Any ideas how I can recover the lost files (they are not in the trash)?

Greetings,
Where are the missing 8 files?

When an incremental back up scheme is used the first back up is a full, all subsequent images are incrementals. In order to restore successfully, you must be able to:

Boot successfully into your recovery environment and see your source / target disk correctly

Have valid back up images that can be read by Acronis. For this scheme, the full and any sequential incrementals must be valid. Validation is usually a good way to confirm their integrity.

If you don't have all these back ups... you will only be able to recover the full and whatever number of valid sequential incrementals remain in the chain. F1-I1,I2,I3... I-18. Your restore capability ends with the last successful sequential incremental.

Don't delete anything for now.

I'd start over... Create a new full and start making incrementals on your desired schedule. Validate regularly. Use smaller sets (create fulls more frequently) and specify retention rules that will keep 2 or more full sets for safety before deletion. These will be easier to manage and offer a higher level or protection than your current scheme which has a single point of failure.
