Backup from boot CD or software

Thread needs solution

Just got Ti 2013. When using previous versions I've always booted from a CD and made image files of my drives. I thought I'd try it from within windows but was wondering if that's as reliable as from a boot CD?

I don't quite get how acronis can make an image of the OS disk that you are actually running the software from.....

Matthew,

In Windows, True Image works by taking a snapshot of the current state of the drive and then locks various parts of the drive as it makes the image, as it goes it locks and unlocks various sections and marks them off the grand drive snapshot it has made. Apart from installing or downloading files to the drive that is being imaged, the only files that are used extensively in normal use is the page file which is never imaged, the temp folder and database files such as Outlook etc, however these files form part of the snapshot process.

So, making images from within Windows is perfectly OK, the only thing that is really advisabel is that if a recovery is needed of a drive/partition containing the OS this ought to be done from the recovery CD.
