Trying to replace current C:\ boot drive with a larger C:\ boot drive. Have already cloned c:\ to new drive, now what?

Thread needs solution

I've just finished using True Image to clone my current C:\ SATA boot drive to a new, larger SATA drive that I just bought and formatted. I now have 2 drives showing in my computer; my old c:\ and the new drive, f:\, which is a complete clone of the c:\ drive.

My system is still booting from the old c:\ drive. So, how do I turn the new f:\ drive into my new c:\ boot drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I ended up using regedit to rename the c:\ to the f:\ and vice versa in local_machine/system/mounteddevices, then switching the boot order in BIOS. I'm sure that's not the best solution, but it seems to have worked, so no bounce no foul.

Your problem was that, after cloning, you allowed Windows to boot with both disks attached. Windows won't allow two bootable C: OS drives concurrently. If you followed our recommendations for cloning (detailed in many threads and in Grover's tutorials) that wouldn't have happened.

As long as it's sorted, good.

I'm new here so could a link to Grovers Tutorial be posted? I suspect Alan that you should have booted to your BIOS when you first turned on your computer. There you could have redesigned your new drive as the boot drive. But since I'm a novice at this I'm not 100% sure of this.

Look in the left margin of this forum, or in any of Grover's posts.
