Backup to network storage device fails with ATIH 2011
Issue:
When setting up a "Disk and partition backup" TIH 2011 can see the network drive, and accepts it as a backup destination. But shortly after the backup starts it fails with the error, "Error occurred while creating the file".
Details:
I bought a Seagate BlackArmor NAS 220 to use as a backup device. I can map to it, and manually copy files to it - the permissions for the share are "full" access for "everyone". I can copy an existing backup to the NAS and ATI will recognize it (I can open, explore, and restore files from it), but it is unable to create a new backup on the NAS drive.
Question:
Does anyone have any insight into what the problem may be?

Thanks Tuttle,
that worked and I can back up now.
Details:
it did not occur to me to use the UNC path within the application. I had read some forum
posts (like this one [kb 2869: Backing Up to NAS]) that indicated to use the destination drop
down list in the backup dialog to select the network drive. That put me down the wrong path.
The other tricky thing is, when you put in the UNC path (e.g. \\192.168.2.25\My Backups\)
the "OK" button doesn't become enabled (i.e., you can't click on it). There are no clues to alert
you as to why, so I concluded that the UNC path method was wrong at first. After some
thoughtful consideration (read: "random poking around"), I discovered the "blue arrow" to
the right of the "File Name" box. This arrow button did nothing in the past with the normal
selection of drives from the drop down list, but after I put a valid UNC path in and clicked on
it, an authentication dialog popped up.
So the solution was:
- From the "Destination drop down list in the backup dialog box"
Choose "Browse ..." - In the "Browse for Destination" dialog,
enter the UNC path for your drive in the "File name:" input field - If the "Authentication Settings" dialog does not pop up
Click the blue arrow button to the right of the "File name:" input field so it does pop up - Enter the login info for your share
I did this and things worked
Thanks
