Acronis won't allow me to cancel a scheduled backup

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Today I came into my office to find Acronis had woken the machine up from sleep and was trying to make a backup. A laudable idea, but the drive it wanted to back up to, wasn't plugged in!

When I go to the tab "Disk and Partition Backup" the "settings" for the backup always says "Weekly on Saturday."

Then I click on those words and change it to TURN ON...... but there is no way to "OK" that choice. So next time I look at the backup it's back to the Saturday backup thing again.

I want to make FULL backups each time and I want to make them on my own schedule. But I can't seem to get rid of the choice to run on Saturday. Or I should say I can get rid of it but Acronis doesn't remember my selection.

How do I save the choice DO NOT SCHEDULE, if there is no OK button to click on?

Thank you all in advance,

F Wolf

Here are some examples of how to change the scheduler and the changes can be made WITHOUT going into edit settings mode.
Note 1: When turning schedule off, once you click the "do not schedule" option, the scheduler is off without you doing anything more.
Note 2: When turning scheduler on or changing the scheduler, once you make the scheduler changes and click the OK button, no further user action needed.
Repeat: it is NOT necessary to go into "Edit settings" mode in order to make changes to the scheduler.

HI GroverH!

You sure out did yourself with those graphics! Most appreciated and they really make it clear, I guess a picture IS worth a thousand words.

But after composing this note, I opened ATIH and there was the C drive and my other partitions clearly showing "WEEKLY ON SATURDAY." If I click on those words as you indicate it does change it to TURN OFF. But after closing the program and restarting it, it's back to the Saturday deal again. ATIH isn't allowing the change to be saved/

What to do?

Regards,

F Wolf

Would you mind looking at my two pictures again. While posting them last night, I had issues with getting them to display properly so what you saw may not have been my final. thank you.

The instructions apply only to the single specific task which is all that is needed here. Each time you start a NEW TASK, the default weekly schedule will appear but this has no bearing on the task already created.

Would you mind posting me a picture of the "it's back to Saturday deal again". Show me just the front cover like the first part of my pictures.
If you have more than one task, let the capture include those as well.

Note that when you activate the turn off the scheduler, that clears any histrory as to the scheduler frequency settings.
As a result, should you want to turn the scheduler back on, you must also reset the frequency andr reset the time to your desired frequency setting.

Addendum: If the only time you do the backup is on Saturday night, why not consider
1. setting the scheduler off
2. Have the backup task creaste a desktop shortcut.
3. Whenever you are ready to create a backup and the storage disk IS attached, simply click the desktop shortcut, so opening TrueImage program is not even necessary.

Hi GroverH,

I saw your other .jpgs and they agree with my initial interpretation of what you are saying.

I attached one screen capture that shows the back ups for all 3 of my partitions set to TURN ON, meaning that they are essentially OFF unless I intervene. As long as it stays that way and won't auto start I am happy. If I am misunderstanding what is in the capture let me know please.

My backups occur manually, usually on a Saturday a.m. so there's no need to have a schedule set up, although it's nice to know it can be done with a shortcut.

If I was to choose backing up all 3 partitions at one time do they appear as one huge .tib file or are they separate from each other? In my years with Acronis I have never tried to do that, I always make a separate backup rather than group them together at once.

Where I was going wrong, hopefully, was by opening the "Disk and Partition Backup" and looking in there at the schedule, rather than just looking at what was right in front of me.

Thanks again for your help!

Fred

You are correct. These settings will not produce any automatic backups.
When a backup is desired of any of these tasks, all you need to do is to either
a. open TrueImage and click the "backup now" option for any or all tasks.
b or, create a desktop shortcut for each task which would enable you to create a backup of any (or all) these tasks simply by clicking the desktop shortcut so no opening of TrueImage is required.
c. It is not necessary to perforn a task edit in order to create the desktop shortcut.

I strongly discourage the editing of any task as the results are usuaully not what is expected or desired.

Each of your tasks has its own storage folder which is my preference so I take that as a good procedure and matches my recommendation.

My prefernce is to have one or more of my tasks to be a full and complete backup of all partitions on the disk. The resulting file will be one large file but the partitions will be listed inside individually so a single partition restore is still possble even if the backup file is one large file. I also find that having my backup to include all partitions makes the creation of a replacement disk (or a restore due to a virus) to be a much easier process as a full disk backup enables a full disk restore with fewer restore steps than a siingle partiton restore of all partitions. The first few pictures inside my link #2 below is an example of a disk option backup--my preference.

GroverH,

Again, many thanks for your very complete and easy to understand explanations. I will try and follow your lead about the one size fits all backup of all partitions on the disc.

Naturally you are far more familiar with all the features of Acronis, but I can say it's saved my butt any number of times for various reasons.

It's a great product and coupled with help from the forum, like yours, and tech support, it's an unbeatable combo imho.

Regards and thanks for all your time!
