Timeout while creating snapshot

Thread needs solution

I have some virtual machines failing to backup because of some sort of timeout issue creating the snapshot. Here is the message:

---
Awaiting task 'CreateSnapshot' has failed. Reason: Cannot create a quiesced snapshot because the create snapshot operation exceeded the time limit for holding off I/O in the frozen virtual machine..
---

Any ideas? I don't think I can not do a quiesced snapshot for this machine. This just started a little while ago but was working fine before that.

Perhaps some other program is preventing the snapshot from starting.

Are you using VSS?

What build of ABR11.5 are you using and what build of SNAPAPI is your system using?

Hello Carl Constantine,

Thank you for using Acronis software. I am happy to assist you.

I think you are talking about your virtual environment and a virtual guest system that have problems to perform the snapshot.
The snapshot creation process is handled on VMware side entirely, i.e. Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 just asks vSphere to create the snapshot and works with it once it is created. Therefore, please create a quiesced snapshot (without memory) of the affected VM right from the vSphere and see if you run into similar issues. Please check the screen shot attached illustrating the snapshot options (the same are called by virtual appliance). If that is the case, please get in touch with VMware support to figure out how to adjust the settings.

On our side, we can recommend looking at pre-freeze/post-thaw commands functionality provided by VMware tools, which may help to overcome this issue: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1006671

Let me know if you need additional help please.

Thank you.

Hi Carl, were you able to create a snapshot without memory yet? I think this is needed to further isolate the issue. snapshot
